Carson City Navy League Meeting to Feature USNS Carson City and USS Nevada BB-36

The Carson City Council of the United States Navy League will hold its first meeting of the New Year on Wednesday, February 17, 2015 at the Gold Dust West Hotel and Casino, Carson City. The social hour will start at 5:30 PM and Dinner will begin at 6:30PM.

Our speaker will be Mr. Wayne Scarpaci, naval artist and historian, who is an authority on the Battleship USS Nevada, BB-36. The 100th Anniversary of the Commissioning of USS Nevada will take place on March 11 of this Year.

Mr. Scarpaci will not only share some of the history of the Nevada, but also the USS Carson City, PF 50

Tuesday morning raid at East Carson City apartment results in drug trafficking arrests

UPDATE 3:51PM: Five were arrested early Tuesday in connection with a drug trafficking operation at a Woodside Drive apartment in east Carson City. The men were booked into Carson City jail on multiple felony charges. According to Carson City Jail booking, the following were arrested:

Two Bay area Celtic Harpists and multi-instrumentalists Lisa Lynne & Aryeh Frankfurter will be performing a concert of rare instruments and stories at The Brewery Arts Center in Carson City on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 7:00 PM.

The show features Lisa Lynne & Aryeh Frankfurter playing two Celtic harps, the rare Swedish Nyckelharpa, and assorted instruments from the mandolin, cittern and bouzouki family. The audience will hear Traditional instrumental music from Sweden and Ireland as well as heartwarming original compositions blended with stories of humor and adventure.

Sunday, Jan. 31: Things to do around Carson City

They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Pair that with unlimited bowling until noon and you’ve got yourself a great Sunday. The Capital City Community Band performs at the First Presbyterian Church in its annual ‘Let the Band Play On’ concert. Show some appreciation for these talented musicians by making a donation to their group. Games aren’t just for kids, you know. Nerdvana is holding its first ‘Adult Games Night’ this evening, just make sure to bring your ID.

Two Carson City residents were arrested Friday on multiple felony charges including maintaining a drug house and possessing marijuana and other drugs at their Park Street residence, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

Night in the County music festival organizers announce additional artists for 2016

Night in the Country will celebrate its 15th year as Nevada's longest-running country music festival with the largest lineup in its history, featuring some of the biggest country artists in the world including headliners Tyler Farr, Chase Rice and Kip Moore. The festival, set for July 21 – 23 at the Lyon County Fairgrounds in Yerington, has also added Phil Vassar and Josh Abbott Band to the 2016 lineup.

Tickets on sale Monday for TEDx Carson City

Tickets for TEDx Carson City 2016 with the theme, Creating the Community you Want to Live In, will go on sale Monday.

Organizer Gina Hill said the goal for Carson City’s TEDx is to unite listeners in a common vision of creating a community that all would want to live in. She hopes it is transformational.

$3 million in federal land sale money awarded to wildfire preparedness at Tahoe

The latest round of funding through the U.S. Bureau of Land Management’s Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act includes more than $3 million for projects to help reduce wildfire risk in Lake Tahoe communities.

Privately funded benches, bike racks to add character to downtown Carson City

Carson City residents will be able to buy a piece of history while supporting the downtown redevelopment to begin this March.

Metal benches and bicycle racks to be placed strategically along Carson and Curry Streets are available for purchase by businesses, those who wish to remember or honor a loved one or family, or simply to put a family name on the bench.

History all around at Carson Mall antique show

Baskets, coins, furniture, jewelry, knives, signage, spoons, and knick-knacks of all types can be found at the Carson Mall Junk in the Trunk Antique Show and Sale today until 7pm. The show had an appraiser on hand until 3pm, where for only $5 they would assess the value of any item brought before them. Approximately 20 vendors had their wears on display today.

Bring some art into your new year with one of our many art exhibits. The Nevada Artist Association has just switched up their gallery and has a New Year’s show to offer you. The group also works with the Carson Visitor Bureau and showcases a different artist each month in the Visitors’ Center: currently Bob Hickox. Comma Coffee is hosting a reception this evening for the January artist in their revolving Backseat Gallery, so head down at 5 p.m. for some finger food and the unveiling.

If you aren’t a member yet, it is just five dollars to enjoy Prince and the Pauper tonight.
