Youth Theatre Carson City to hold workshop, auditions for 'Shrek: The Musical, Jr.'

Youth Theatre Carson City is thrilled to announce auditions for "Shrek: The Musical, Jr." The show will run eight performances, January 17-26, 2020 in the Bob Boldrick Theatre at the Carson City Community Center. We are looking for actors, singers, and dancers grades K-12, who will be cast to play a host of colorful fractured fairytale characters!

National Night Out is back this Tuesday at Mills Park in Carson City

National Night Out, one of Carson City’s largest summer celebrations, is returning Tuesday, Aug. 6 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Mills Park for its 17th year. And by all indications, it will be the biggest yet.

National Night Out is a way for residents to meet those who serve and protect our community as well as agencies that provide services, especially in areas of public health and safety. Agencies such as Search and Rescue, Health and Human Services, Care Flight, Advocates to End Domestic Violence, Carson City Sheriff’s Office, Carson City Fire Department, Nevada Highway Patrol, Department of Wildlife, agency advocates and dozens more.

A Joint Operating Agreement is currently under review between the Carson City Library, the Northern Nevada Development Authority, and Adams Hub, to create and manage a “Business Retention and Expansion” program.

At the Board of Supervisor’s meeting on Aug. 1, a presentation was held to discuss a possible joint contract between the three entities, for the creation of a Business Retention and Expansion program, which would be funded by the Hop and Mae Adams Foundation.

Nevada State Museum to debut replica Carson City Mint half dollar

Coins with the famous “CC” mark of the Carson City Mint are coveted by coin collectors and those minted in 1870 — the first year of operation for the Mint — rank highly among them in terms of historic and monetary value.

On Thursday, the very coin press that minted the original will be recreating replicas of the 1870 Liberty Seated Half Dollar in the same building that produced the originals almost 150 years ago.
