CARSON CITY — With a theme "The NexGen of Aviation is You" the 2018 Carson City Airport Open House looks to the skies to celebrate the future this Saturday, June 23. The free community, family-friendly event draws thousands of visitors annually, where airplane and aircraft enthusiasts gather to learn about aviation and aerospace related careers.

The Carson City Airport is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year and will hold its annual Open House this Saturday, June 23 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The free community event, which annually draws more than 6,000 visitors, takes place at the Carson City Airport, 2600 College Parkway.

Carson Tahoe Health held an open house Tuesday to unveil its new robotic surgical system, the daVinci Xi, which uses the latest in robotic, computer and optical technology, according to Carson Tahoe Health. Attendees were offered the opportunity to run training "games" on the simulator and also the daVinci Xi itself.

UPDATE 1:04AM: A standoff with Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies at an Etta Place residence in which a man threatened to "go out in a blaze of glory" and shoot officers ended safely just before 12:30 a.m., said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

Silver City, Nevada - Many groups and volunteers came together once again to make the annual summer program in Silver City a success. Members of the Sierra Nevada Youth Optimist Club will be hosting robotics camps at Western Nevada College July 17th – July21st.
There will be two separate sessions to meet the needs of different ages: the morning session (9:00 AM - 12:00 PM) will be targeted to grades K - 4th and will use the LEGO WeDo robotics kits; the afternoon session (1:00 PM - 4:00 PM) will be targeted to grades 4th - 8th and will use the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 robotics kits.

SILVER CITY — Each summer since 2003, the historic Comstock community of Silver City has partnered with Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey to organize a free, public program with guest teachers leading fun, hands-on activities in science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM).

Last week the annual program kicked off with a blues concert in the park, and this Tuesday, June 13 the program continues with science activities led by Jim Barcellos of University of Nevada Reno Cooperative Extension (UNCE).
