A Full Year for Silver Bricks 4-H Robotics and First Lego League Club
Storey County Silver Bricks 4-H Robotics First Lego League club packed their year establishing goals and assisting other First Lego League teams.
Club members worked on being “present” during meetings and not melting into the background. They mastered the art of “friendly competition” working hard as a team but also celebrating and helping other teams that would compete against them These skills included increasing their ability to communicate confidently with adults, judges and each other. In addition, they learned a more sophisticated method of programing their robot.
Nicole Frens, 4-H club leader, stated “Outreach to others and community service was a large part of their year.” Club members engaged in a demonstration at Childrens’ Day, mentored at EAGLE co-op and Crushing Bricks 4-H Robotics and FLL club and hosted FLL and FLL Jr tables at Excel Christian School.
They also spent time picking up trash with the local Girl Scout club at the VCH mailbox are. Club members Connor, Aidan, Xander, Karl and Ayla increased a lot of their skills and shared experiential learning while working on their year-long challenge. “All in all I couldn’t be more proud of what they are doing” said Frens. “It’s not always about winning, but coming together to learn the skills that will help them throughout life.”
