Carson City Airport Open House aims high to celebrate aviation tech and the future
CARSON CITY — With a theme "The NexGen of Aviation is You" the 2018 Carson City Airport Open House looks to the skies to celebrate the future this Saturday, June 23. The free community, family-friendly event draws thousands of visitors annually, where airplane and aircraft enthusiasts gather to learn about aviation and aerospace related careers.
The open house runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Carson City Airport, 2600 College Parkway, Carson City, Nev. Parking can be found onsite at the airport. A Boy Scout troop will guide motorists to available parking.
The focus of this year’s event is to promote education and the discovery of aviation and aerospace related careers. Attendees are invited to explore these topics through various hands-on activities, exhibits, and guest speakers.
Various organizations will offer area youth stimulating, interactive and informative programming such as: the CHS Robotics Club, Home Depot, Build-A-Rocket, Children’s Museum, United Airlines, Carson City Library STEM Program, Chaparral Aviation and more. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Western Nevada College will be promoting their educational curriculum, and Pathways to Aviation will be available to discuss vocational opportunities.
Additionally, the Nevada Air National Guard will be providing information on technical training and educational benefits.
The Guest Speaker Educational Forum will give kids and young adults the opportunity to interact with professionals in aviation and related fields including engineering, computer science, drone piloting, and medicine. Scheduled to speak are:

The open house event kicks off at 8 a.m. with a pancake breakfast for purchase provided by the EAA. Flybys begin at 9:30 a.m. and include an exhilarating field of planes: CH-46 Sea Knight, A-26 Invader, TBM Avenger, OV-10 Bronco, AH-1S Cobra and many more vintage aircraft and war birds. Aircraft will be landing throughout the day for public viewing.

The purpose of the Carson City Airport Open House is to raise community awareness of the importance of aviation and aerospace for Carson City and Nevada’s economy. The economic impact of the airport to the local community is estimated at over $30 million annually. Additionally, the event will focus on educating and encouraging our young people to consider careers in the areas of robotics, aviation and aerospace.
