The Carson City Airport will hold an Open House on Saturday, June 10, 2017 from 8:00 A.M. until 4:00 P.M. The event takes place at the Carson City Airport, 2600 College Parkway, Carson City, Nevada. Entry to the event is FREE to the public and draws over 6,000 visitors. The community event explores the exciting world of aviation and aerospace including: interactive displays, historical aircraft, military equipment, flybys, plane and helicopter demonstrations, food and beverages, and many more educational and family activities.

Team Captain, the Carson High School Robotics team, were recently invited to tour the Tesla Gigafactory in Sparks, NV. Joining them on the tour was Carson City Superintendent Mr. Richard Stokes.

This weekend is for all of the moms out there, and the dads that are also moms, and the women who hold a special place of honor in our hearts. Scoop the family up and find something to enjoy together. The annual RSVP Spring Carnival is an easy choice, but a round-trip to Virginia City on the historic V and T Steam Train is pretty memorable. Find something pretty for her garden at the Spring Plant Sale that the Greenhouse Project hosts each year. Come out and let the Jedi Engineers use the force to give you a sparkly, clean car! This a fundraiser to help with travel expenses for this group of middle school students to go to an International FIRST Robotics Championship in Bath, UK! Car wash will be from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm at the corner of Highway 50 and Carson St. at the AM/PM Arco Station.

Summer? Winter? Flip a coin. I could’ve guessed the rain was coming, my lilacs just started to bloom. Don’t let your parade get rained out though, downtown Carson will march right through this wet stuff. The early Spring Farmers Market debuts today behind Due Sorella at Nevada and Musser Streets. Grab the kids and enjoy today’s open house with free admission at the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada. Stick around for the monthly Downtown Business Association wine walk and find something for Mothers’ Day at one of our wonderful local shops.

Join us for an indoor yard sale to benefit the Eagle Valley Middle School robotics team, The Jedi Engineers. This team will be headed to Bath, UK in June to compete in an International Championship. One hundred percent of the proceeds will assist the team with travel costs. Join us inside the big gym from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

CARSON CITY — Team Captain, the Carson High School robotics team, has returned from an intense four-day competition at the FIRST World Championship. Held April 19–22 in Houston, Texas, the competition brings together the best robotics teams from around the country and around the world.

Just when things could not get any better, the Star Wars Club, initiated by CHS students, hit light speed at CHS. To date, CHS Advisor, physics, astronomy, heliophysics coordinator, and head freshman football coach Jim Bean said the club has had two meetings so far.

The Reno Aces will be hosting a fundraiser to help the Eagle Valley Middle School Lego Robotics Team get to England. The game will take place on Friday, May 12th at 6:00 PM. Tickets are only $15 with proceeds going to help the Lego Robotics Team. Each ticket is located in the Right Infield Section and comes with a complimentary Reno Aces Ball Cap.

Eagle Valley Middle School’s FIRST LEGO League team, The Jedi Engineers, have returned from the FIRST World Festival Championships! FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), a not-for-profit organization founded in 1989 by inventor Dean Kamen, inspires young people’s interest and participation in science and technology.

With all the emphasis on teaching robotics in the schools, one wonders what will become of those of us who are less than science or mathematically gifted.

Robots already permeate our lives at almost every turn and each day brings new revelations about how robots are taking over the once hum-drum jobs humans no longer wish to perform — or manufacturers no longer wish to pay humans the salaries and benefits it takes to manufacture a widget.

The VC Silver Bricks FIRST Lego League 4-H club began in the Fall of 2016 under the guidance of FLL Coach and 4-H leader Nicole Frens.

University of Nevada Cooperative Extension’s 4-H's Capital City Farm Days in Carson City is set for April 20-21. There will be 28 presenters teaching elementary-age youth about Nevada agriculture, where food and fiber come from, and environmental issues related to agriculture.

Carson High School's Robotics Team is hosting a Robotics Night at Edith W. Fritsch Elementary School on Wednesday 6:30–8:00 p.m. The team is preparing to attend the World Championship in Houston, TX on April 19-22 where they will compete against 127 other FIRST Tech Challenge teams from 39 countries.

The support received from the community of Carson City is enough to make people from all over the country want to relocate. Former students know there are no special funds available for high school clubs to organize a prom or enjoy interscholastic competition.

TOCCATA kicks off its 12th season of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion; enjoy free admittance to today’s dress rehearsal at Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church. Team Captain, the Carson High School robotics team representing Carson City, has been invited to the prestigious FIRST World Championship, which includes 39 countries, in Houston, Texas to be held next month.

The Micromanipulator Company recently hosted the award-winning 2016-17 Eagle Valley Middle School Jedi Engineers of Carson City, along with school district officials, local businesses, families and friends.

During the Thursday, March 16 event at the company’s facility, the Jedi Engineers were presented with a proclamation from the Western Manufacturing Alliance naming them the first “WMA Junior Technology Advancement Partners” in recognition of their robotics achievements.

March Madness has hit Eagle Valley Middle School in Carson City. No, not basketball, but its Robotics team. Eagle Valley’s Jedi Engineers First LEGO League Team won the Northern Nevada LEGO League Championship and is now headed to the World Championship finals in Houston in April. They have also been invited to compete in Bath, England this summer.

Governor Brian Sandoval and the Office of Science, Innovation and Technology (OSIT) today announced $1,000,000 in STEM Workforce Challenge Grants to Nevada training providers throughout the state.

Heading a stellar line-up of speakers for the second annual UAS Search and Rescue Symposium, Gene Robinson, who literally wrote the book on how to use drones for search and rescue and disasters, will talk about how to train public safety agencies in the use of aerial and ground robots in emergency response.

What’s this? A weekend with no snow in sight? That’s the best news I’ve heard in months. Welcome to the wrestlers and swimmers who are in town for their respective tournaments: you’ll find other fun things on this list to occupy your downtime. It’s a St. Patty’s celebration in Virginia City this weekend with the parade, Rocky Mountain Oyster Fest, and Ball Buster Saloon Crawl. Bragging rights are on the line at the Sixth Annual Thirsty Boy Homebrew Competition sponsored by Just Brew It. You’ll get a sneak peek at the soon-to-open Shoe Tree Brewery if you attend the award ceremony.

Carson Middle School is hosting a Family Engagement Night on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Join us for food and fun. Activities will include Lunar Landers, Tumblewings, Makers Club, Lego Robotics, Scholastic Book Fair, archery, cupcake decorating and much more. Hot dogs will be served! We hope to see you there.
