Reno home searched after warrants issued for former Lake Tahoe Brewing Company owner

On Tuesday Carson City Sheriff’s Office detectives and the Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team executed search warrants in the 8000 block of Willow Ranch Trail and in the 2000 block of East 9th Street in Reno.

Reno Police Department and FBI/DEA Safe Streets Task Force also assisted during the search warrant.

Thursday procession for Carson City sheriff's deputy to move through North Carson Street

A funeral procession through Carson City for fallen Sheriff’s Deputy Carl Howell will be Thursday, 9 a.m. beginning at the Carson City Sheriff’s Office on Musser Street and will move along North Carson Street on its way to services in Reno.

The procession will be led by a fire truck that will carry Howell’s casket past the Nevada State Capitol and proceed north along Carson Street. It will meet up with a larger procession of law officers that will be staged at North Carson Street and College Parkway.

A Carson City Sheriff's deputy was killed in a shooting early Saturday morning during an exchange of gunfire on Montez Drive on the northeast side of Carson City. The suspect also died, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

The following is a statement by Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong:
At 2:18 a.m., Carson City Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the report of a domestic battery involving physical injury at the 4100 block of Montez Drive in East Carson City. As officers arrived at the scene, they reported physical injury to the female. Within minutes, the male suspect came out of the house and opened fire on the officers, killing one. Additional units arrived in the area and secured the residence, evacuating three children (ages 8-13) and one adult. The suspect was located dead at the scene.

The Carson City Sheriff’s has relinquished the investigation of this incident to the Reno Police Department.

Officer and family information is not being released at this time.

Dayton burglary suspect shoots self with stolen gun while watching firearm safety video

Two people were arrested in connection with a rash of burglaries in the Dayton area during the past month with a break in the case discovered early this week when one of the suspects accidentally shot himself with a gun he allegedly stole, the Lyon County Sheriff's Office said Friday.

Over the past month the Lyon County Sheriff's Office has been investigating approximately 18 Dayton residential burglaries in the Riverboat Road, River Park, and Sutro neighborhoods.

Carson City sheriff's arrest log: Man jailed after attempting to sell stolen car to dealership

A 63-year-old Reno man was arrested Friday on felony charges including possession of a stolen car after he allegedly attempted to sell the car at a Carson City automotive lot, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Donald Brown Kimball was booked on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, uttering a forged instrument and possession of a controlled substance, all felonies. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Since the February release of results from a student survey regarding sexual conduct and safety, a number of efforts to strengthen a supportive campus climate, one with zero tolerance for sexual assault, sexual misconduct and other life-damaging actions, have been put in place at the University of Nevada, Reno.

In March, the University launched a 24-hour Sexual Assault/Sexual Misconduct Hotline, allowing students, faculty and staff to report incidents that occur on or off campus. The caller may remain anonymous if he/she chooses. The hotline phone number is 775-784-1030.

A 44-year-old man, Robert Lawson White, was arrested Friday, 1:08 a.m. in the 1900 block of North Carson Street on suspicion of administering a controlled substance, methamphetamine, against the victim’s will and misdemeanor domestic battery.

UNR police to conduct active assailant exercise Thursday

The University of Nevada, Reno Police Services is planning a full-scale active assailant exercise from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, March 19.

The exercise will include agencies from across the region to test the Regional Active Assailant Response Protocol as well as the University’s Active Assailant Plan. With numerous community and regional partners participating, this drill will be the largest in the University’s history.

Man jailed on burglary charges after discovery of backpacks, safe filled with jewelry

A 25-year-old firefighter for the U.S. Forest Service was arrested Thursday, March 5 and remains in jail on suspicion of felony burglary, possession of stolen property and drug charges, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Rory William Torvik of Carson City was arrested following an investigation that led to the recovery of a safe and backpacks filled with stolen jewelry.

Suspect in Washoe Valley killings recently released from prison, tied to Arizona murder

Washoe County authorities have identified the man suspected of killing two women in Washoe Valley and say he may have also killed an Arizona man days after he was released from prison.

Anthony Gustave Nelson, 40, who had been released from prison in Arizona on June 2 for sexual assault, is the suspect in the deaths of two women, ages 68 and 70, and who led authorities on a chase from Carson City to Sand Mountain Recreation Area on Friday, June 13 in which he died in a shootout with deputies.

Reno police are now involved in the investigation involving Friday night's chase from Carson City to Sand Mountain Recreation Area in Churchill County in which a possible suspect in a double homicide earlier in Washoe Valley was killed during a shootout with authorities.

Carson City Sheriff's Office identifies victims, provides new details into Saturday murder investigation

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office has released the identities of the victims from the Saturday morning homicide. The deceased father is identified as Guy Perry, age 52, of Carson City.

He was killed by gunshot wounds to the upper torso. The injured daughter is identified as Cassandra Perry, age 19, also of Carson City. She suffered a gunshot wound to the head and is expected to fully recover from her wounds. As reported, the weapon used in this case was a .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol. Sheriff’s detectives have determined the weapon used was a stolen gun.

Reno police provide details after Carson City murder suspect kills himself at park

More details were made available by Reno police this afternoon after a Carson City man wanted for murder fatally turned the gun on himself in a south Reno park.

Michael Dylan Brentlinger, 22, shot himself once in the head at Manzanita Park using a .45 caliber handgun, the same caliber believed used to kill a Carson City man early Saturday morning inside a Carmine Street home and critically wounding his 19-year-old daughter, said Reno Police Department Lt. William Rulla.

Nevada Highway Patrol to step up traffic enforcement on Highway 50

The Nevada Highway Patrol will be stepping up enforcement efforts on US 50 effective today through August 12, 2013. These efforts will emphasize on stopping and citing motorists who exceed the posted speed limit; in addition to the speed enforcement campaign, troopers will be looking closely at other traffic violations such as reckless or aggressive driving, Driving Under the Influence, following too closely, talking or texting on a hand-held cell phone and lane change violations.

Fourteen-vehicle pileup snarls Reno morning commute on Highway 395

Fourteen vehicles were involved in a crash Wednesday morning on southbound Highway 395 between McCarran and Oddie Boulevard in Reno, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports. One person was injured.

The crash happened at 6:43 a.m. and caused traffic delays. According to NHP Trooper Chuck Allen, the chain of events began when five vehicles were involved in a collision in the left lane of the south bound travel lanes.

Suspects in Carson City Wells Fargo bank robbery tied to Reno bank robberies

UPDATE 7:17PM: Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said the two suspects captured after this morning's Wells Fargo bank robbery may be tied to a Nevada State Bank robbery in Reno. The two men, Kenneth Wayne Young, 44, and Michael Lee Smith, 36, are leaving Carson City Jail and will be booked and arraigned in federal court.

NHP: Troopers investigate 65 crashes and make 54 arrests during five days of Street Vibration events

The Nevada Highway Patrol reports investigating 65 crashes associated with the 2012 Street Vibration motorcycle rally which had riders attending events between Reno, Carson City, Virginia City and Lake Tahoe.
There were no fatalities associated with the annual motorcycle rally, according to NHP. Reno police however, were investigating a Sunday morning fatal crash on Plumb Lane.

Crime Log: Toads Bar shooter arrested by Reno PD, transported to Carson City

A Reno Police Department deputy arrested Emanuel "Bouncer" Moreno, a 21-year-old Carson City man, at 8 p.m. Saturday evening at the 1100 block of Mill Street (Renown Medical Center) in Reno. Moreno was involved in a shooting at approximately 4:15 a.m. Saturday morning in front of Toads Bar on East William Street. Moreno was arrested on a felony attempted murder allegation as well as misdemeanor allegations of discharging a firearm in public and contempt of court. Bail is set at $76,500.

Investigation Results in 8 Arrests for Distributing Methamphetamine in Northern Nevada

JAN 4 - (RENO, NV) – A four month investigation by the Northern Nevada Drug Task Force (NNDTF) has led to the arrest of 8 individuals accused of operating a drug trafficking organization responsible for the regular distribution of methamphetamine in Northern Nevada.

In August of 2011, NNDTF Task Force Officers and Agents initiated an investigation into a mid-level group of suspected methamphetamine dealers suspected of delivering and distributing multiple pounds of methamphetamine throughout the Reno/Sparks area on a monthly basis.

KTVN Channel 2 sports director JK Metzker dies in accident; arrest made

UPDATED 5:22PM: Sad news to report. KTVN-TV confirms that Channel 2 News Sports Director JK Metzker died Sunday afternoon from injuries he suffered after being struck by a vehicle. The accident happened on North Virginia Street near 17th Street at 11:50pm last night following the University of Nevada Wolf Pack football game.

Four charged in Reno murder and Carson City robbery spree

After a comprehensive investigation by detectives from the Reno Police Dept. in conjunction with detectives from the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, all four defendants have been charged in the murder of Steven Gale, from the morning of May 9th on California Avenue. In addition they were charged with several other robberies and related crimes in both Carson City and Reno.

Nevada Attorney General To Hold Statewide Domestic Violence Fatality Review Summit

Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto will hold the first statewide Domestic Violence Fatality Review Summit in Las Vegas on Friday, bringing together over 120 people from around the state to address the issue of domestic violence deaths in Nevada.
The summit will take place at the Suncoast Hotel Casino, 9090 Alta Drive, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
