SILVER SPRINGS, Nev. — Fort Churchill State Historic Park is offering a variety of ranger-led programs during the month of June. Events highlight the area’s rich history and abundant natural resources. Among the activities are:

The second annual Kids to Parks Day was a jam-packed day full out outdoor activities at the Silver Saddle Ranch on Saturday in Carson City.

To celebrate Kids to Parks Day, children of all ages got the hands-on experience of outdoor recreation and safety through several informative booths and exciting activities around the ranch.

The Carson City Junior Ranger Program educates youth about the environment, fosters a sense of community, and encourages life-long environmental stewardship. Throughout each year's Junior Ranger events, children will fill out their educational Adventure Guides at each program as they learn more about the outdoors.

The 22nd Annual Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial ceremony was held Thursday, May 2 at the Capitol Mall in Carson City.

Two Nevada law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty were recognized Thursday in a ceremony with their names added to a memorial on the Capitol Mall in Carson City.

Oh what a difference the sunshine makes. The second day of May in Carson City will bring warming temperatures with a daytime high in the low 70s. Spring is a beautiful time of year to get outdoors and visit the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, except that warm and wet spring weather means roads and trails are often muddy. Walking, horseback riding, biking, or driving on soft and unstable road or trail surfaces can cause long-term damage, while also increasing the risk of getting stuck or slipping.

It’s the National Outdoor Day of Play! Join us for The National Park Trust’s 9th Annual Kids to Parks Day. Across the nation, Kids to Parks Day brings thousands of children to local parks to learn about nature and experience outdoor recreation. Beginning April 17, the Carson City Rifle and Pistol Range will be open for free public use on Wednesday and Thursday evenings. During this time, the range will be monitored by Carson City Park Rangers, as they are Range Safety Officers, certified by the National Rifle Association.

A 35-year-old Dayton man was arrested Friday, 6:14 p.m. in the 1600 block of Airport Road for misdemeanor violation of a suspended sentence, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

The Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest will hold an open house on Wednesday, Feb. 27, to gather public ideas for requesting off-highway vehicle grant funds. The informal open house will run from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Carson Ranger District Office, 1536 South Carson Street.

On Friday, Feb. 8, 19-year-old Wilber Ernesto Martinez-Guzman appeared in Carson City Justice Court before Judge Tom Armstrong for his arraignment hearing.

Prosecution prepared a stipulation to transfer Martinez-Guzman to Washoe County to face the more pressing charges of murder. Martinez-Guzman and his attorney agreed.

Martinez-Guzman waived the right to a preliminary hearing within 15 days in order to be transferred to Washoe County.

A pre-trial conference date in Carson City has been set for July 10 for a status check. Martinez-Guzman will not be required to be in attendance for it.

A 34 year-old Reno woman was among four people arrested Friday by Carson City Sheriff's deputies on felony drug offenses.

A probable cause arrest report released Friday by the Carson City Sheriff's Office on 19 year-old murder suspect Wilber Ernesto Martinez-Guzman contains a confession under Miranda.

On Thursday, Jan. 24 19-year-old Wilbur Ernesto Martinez-Guzman made his first court appearance in Carson City Justice Court before Judge Tom Armstrong.

Martinez-Guzman was arrested last Saturday in connection with the four murders which occurred mid January between Gardnerville and South Reno.

However, in Carson City Justice Court Martinez-Guzman faced charges of burglary, obtaining money under false pretenses, possessing several of the victims property including stolen firearms, among other charges.

A total of 36 charges were alleged against Martinez-Guzman in Carson City.
