With approximately 2,485 miles of national trails throughout the Silver State, the Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is excited to “wear our hearts on our backpacks” as we join the country in celebrating five decades of the National Trails System.

Tuesday conditioning hike to C-Hill Trail sponsored by Muscle Powered

Come out and join us for free hikes each week to enjoy Nevada outdoors around Carson City! Meet in the dirt parking area on Curry Street behind the Railroad Museum.

Hikes are 4-6 miles in length with an elevation gain, sometimes over 500 feet and usually on single track trail.

Evening hikes are usually one and a half hours or more duration. Water and study boots or athletic shoes required. Hat and sunscreen recommended.

Among them is a display created by archaeologist Robert Elston that illustrates progress on a multi-year archaeological project funded through a National Science Foundation grant.

The weekend has arrived, and it will be an exceptionally long one for the schoolkids of Carson City: spring break begins Monday. There’s a rumor of snowfall for this weekend, but it’s not expected to be too heavy in the valley. Don’t quote me on that, though, I’ve been wrong before. Break a leg to the Douglas students performing in ‘Game of Tiaras’ this weekend; the show sounds hilarious, but be warned, it’s not for kids.
