Lake Tahoe South launches into spring with more than a foot of fresh powder falling on area ski resorts: Heavenly, Sierra-at-Tahoe and Kirkwood this past weekend with additional accumulation occurring on Monday afternoon and evening. Sunny skies and clear roads are in the forecast for the remainder of the week.

The Boys and Girls Club invites you to Carson City's First Annual Early Childhood Expo Saturday, March 7, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Clubhouse at 1870 Russell Way. Admission to the event is free.

The Dayton Township Kiwanis (DTK) will be holding their annual Casino Night on March 7 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Dayton Community Center on Pike Street in Old Town Dayton.

This casual and crazy fundraiser that runs from 6 to 10 p.m. features great food, music, dancing, raffle prizes and a silent auction.

For the last six years, Carson High School has held an alumni night at the Carson-Douglas basketball game in which alumni are recognized and celebrated. It’s a chance for alumni to come back and visit the old stomping grounds, support the Senators and a chance for us to celebrate contributions and the lives of CHS alumni. The Alumni games will be held February 13 against Douglas Tigers.

The 5th annual CHS Safe and Sober 5k Run/Walk was a tremendous success with turn-out of 113 participants. The weather cleared up this morning and with just a bit of wind at race time, we couldn’t have asked for more perfect weather, maybe even a sunburn.

An annual ice fishing derby will be held on Saturday, Feb. 7 at Davis Lake, Calif., with an entry fee of $20 per person. The only uncertainty is whether it will be an ice fishing or a water fishing derby.

It is normally an ice fishing derby at this time of the year, but last year and again this year, it is shaping up to be a water fishing derby due to lack of ice on the lake.

Students looking forward to the privilege of driving in the State of Nevada are expected to attend school at least 90 percent of the time and not be considered a “Habitual Truant.”

St. Gall Women's Society is hosting their annual fundraiser on Saturday, April 11, 2015, at the Carson City Nugget, 507 North Carson St., Carson City. The ladies will "Step Into Spring" with a luncheon, fashion show and expo with a donation of $35.

It's "big-band jazz times three" when the Mile High Jazz Band, Carson High Jazz Band, and Carson Middle School Jazz Band present the 12th annual combined concert, the Mile High-Carson High Jazz Extravaganza..

The Extravaganza is Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015, 7 p.m., in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William Street. The event is sponsored by the Mile High Jazz Band Association and the Carson City Band Association as a benefit for Carson High instrumental music programs.

The Proscenium Players present 'Polter-heist: A Hauntingly Hiliarious Murder Mystery Dinner Theater Show' in the Pinion Room of the Gold Dust West Hotel and Casino for three weekends, starting Feb. 13. For Friday and Saturday showings the doors open at 5:45, and the one champagne brunch showing on Feb. 22 will begin at 12:45pm. Tickets are $35- $38 and must be bought in advance.

Every year, we celebrate the people from the community who step forward to advocate for abused or neglected children in Carson City--our CASA Volunteers. These exceptional individuals are appointed to serve as guardian ad litem under NRS 432b.500 by the Carson City Juvenile Court.

It is time again to help both our middle school and local businesses out. On Thursday, Jan. 15 between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m., the Pizza Factory on Highway 50 East will donate 20 percent of the entire day's earnings back to Eagle Valley Middle School's Parent Teacher Organization.

Please join us on February 7th at 10:00a.m. for the fifth annual Carson High School Safe Grad - Safe & Sober 5K Run/Walk. This event is organized by volunteers of the Safe Grad Committee and will be held, once again, at the CHS Track/Field.

Carson High Safe Grad program has been an annual tradition in Carson City since 1988. It provides our graduating seniors with a safe and sober, all night celebration on the evening of their graduation, followed by an optional trip to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom amusement park in Northern California.

Snow on the ground, though it was meager, and for the temperatures to cool down. This way we can all go ice fishing soon.

As for right now the higher lakes are just getting iced over. Caples Lake only has about 4 days of ice on it and Red Lake has an inch or so over it.

A student team from the University of Nevada, Reno has been selected as one of the top six finalists by Walt Disney Imagineering, the design and development arm of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, in its 24th Imaginations competition. Imaginations is a design competition created and sponsored by Walt Disney Imagineering with the purpose of seeking out and nurturing the next generation of diverse Imagineers.

The 2nd annual “WNC Baseball Bowling Night” will happen tonight, Jan. 19, at the Gold Dust West Bowling Center in Carson City beginning at 6 p.m. This year will be bigger and better than the last.

This year there will be raffle prizes that will be raffled off to lucky participants. So far the raffle prizes include a $500 VISA Gift Card to help you start off the new year right! Stay packages from Gold Dust West, packages from the Reno Aces, packages from the WNC Foundation, and local dentists Drs. CASI Bingo

Join CASI for Bingo the first Sunday of each month at the Carson City Senior Center located at 911 Beverely Lane.  Door open at 11 AM with games starting at 12:30 PM.  Buy-in is $10 extra packs are $5.  Special games are $1. 

The Carson High School Ski Team will be showing the newest Warren Miller ski and snowboarding movie, "No Turning Back," at the Carson City Community Center on Friday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m., doors opening at 6 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door for $12 or $8 with student ID. Multiple raffle prizes are up for grabs with raffle tickets costing $1 each or 25 tickets for $20. Money raised from the showing will go to support the ski team.

The Carson Victory Rollers will hold their annual Red vs. Green Scrimmage to benefit the local Food For Thought program. The event is this Sunday at 4:30 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center gymnasium.

Come out and watch both the Junior Victory Rollers and adult skaters battle it out. Along with action packed skating, there will also be a raffle. Prizes include a scooter donated by the Wheelhouse, tattoo gift certificates, rounds of golf, haircuts and much more.

The Instrumental Music Department, Bands and Orchestra, is having its annual Winter Holiday Concert on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 7 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center. Donations are welcome. Meanwhile, Carson High School has had a number of their singing Senators recognized for their vocal talents already this year.
