Submitted by editor on Tue, 10/13/2015 - 11:26pmCarson City will break ground on the new Animal Services facility today, at 9:30 a.m. Attending the ceremony will be Carson City Public Works officials, the City Board of Supervisors, Carson Animal Services Initiative, and representatives of the Nevada Humane Society. The facility will be located on Airport Road in Carson, just south of the intersection of Airport Road and Butti Way. The public is invited.

Bill Heitman and Ila Acchtabowski from Junior Achievement have been instrumental in making this happen.The course will be taught by professionals from Sierra Financial Advisors Sally Kaplan and Katie Coombs. Junior Achievement is a non-profit youth organization founded in 1919 by Horace A. Moses, Theodore Vail, and Winthrop M. Crane.

Take it easy at lunchtime and enjoy some bluesy music with Dave Leather at Comma Coffee. Or head down after work for their monthly Artist Reception. Billy Migan will be displaying his exhibit titles Pen Sketches. From there, head south a few blocks for ladies night at the Ormsby Club if you’re the pool playing kind. Lake Tahoe Brewery is the place to be for fun trivia and prizes, bring your friends.
'Are You Smarter Than a Falcon?' Academic Olympic Event

Teams comprised of six people will go head-to-head with the Falcons Academic Olympic team who was the runner-up in state competition last year, and have placed in the top four in the state for the past eleven years. The community is invited to participate by either creating a team and competing, or coming out to watch the festivities. If interested in registering a team, please contact tseddon@slhs.com.

Friends of Brooks Foundation Golf Tournament
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Tue, 09/22/2015 - 8:31amThe Friends of Brooks Foundation was founded by Allison and Owen Brolsma to honor their late son, Brooks Brolsma, and also in appreciation of friends, family, and local businesses who turned out in support during their time of need. Through a golf tournament in October of 2012, they were able to raise over $35,000 to support the family's travel needs, medical costs, and the costs of maintaining a household while having to live out of the area for over three months. Out of this generosity, a realization of the need for this type of financial support for our local families was born

New Undie Run Relay Takes Place at 26th World Championship Outhouse Races

Carson City Soroptimist Stroke to Help Golf Tournament September 26

The tournament is a scramble format, with a 9 a.m. shotgun start, at Eagle Valley Golf. Players can choose to play on either the East Course for the fun, or the West Course for the challenge.
Shootout For the Future

Several of the gun clubs that use the Carson City Gun Range have come together to planned a fun filled fundraiser on Oct. 3, 2015.
The day is dedicated to raising funds for future improvements at the gun range. Planned events include; NRA 100-Yard High Power Rifle Match, 200-Yard Target Rifle Match, IDPA shoot, a Three Gun Match, Bragging Rights Challenges, and two 50/50 Poker shoots (one blind for the less experienced shooters).
Interactive Murder Mystery Evening hosted by Carson Tahoe Auxiliary

This is an original and interactive play written and performed by Funtime Theater of Reno especially for this event and will feature the Cartwheel family. During the show, the audience will dine and interact with the characters to guess the murderer.

Downtown Wine Walk a perfect farewell to summer

Grab a wine glass, map, and hand stamp at the Carson Nugget, Cactus Jack’s, Carson Jewelry and Loan, Touched by an Angel, or Bella Fiore. You have until 5 p.m. to hit as many stops as possible before the raffle begins. Every first Saturday over 30 shops, restaurants, businesses, and organizations stock up on wine and goodies and throw open their doors to the crowds of merry-makers. It's always a great reason to explore downtown.

No matter where you roam this weekend: north, south, east, or west there is fun to be had. Or stick around town and enjoy the many things that make Carson City unique.

Statewide recycled art contest underway

Entrants must be Nevada residents and projects must be composed of used recyclable materials. Submission of an entry form and photos of artwork are due by October 25, 2015.
