Chinese New Year, Carson Comedy Club's military appreciation night, live music and more: Carson City region readies for weekend

Events include a Chinese New Year Celebration at the Nevada State Museum and the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada. The Carson Comedy Club hosts its first Military Appreciation Night on Friday at the Carson Nugget. Carson Valley’s 18th annual Eagles and AG Photo Contest will be underway and live music will keep the Silver State buzzing with excitement. Read on for more information.

First place was awarded to Monique Giron for her piece entitled "Mom." In second place was Trent Pitsenbarger for his work titled "The Queen of the Short Line."
Third place was awarded to Anke Simpson for "Spencer's Cabin," and the President's Choice went to Cathy Carney for "Yamaha."

Nevada 150th birthday commemorative license plates still available
Submitted by editor on Sun, 10/19/2014 - 11:13amThose new blue license plates with the battle born emblem seem to be a more common site in parking lots in in Carson City these days. That’s no surprise to the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles which is reporting nearly 11,000 sold since July 2013.
The commemorative plates were designed to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Nevada statehood and have generated more than $320,000 in revenue to help support the yearlong sesquicentennial celebration.

DMV Offers Nevada 150th License Plate Photo Contest

Nevada was admitted to the Union on October 31, 1864.

The Carson Memories contest asked participants to submit their favorite photos demonstrating something special or distinct about the Carson City area.
The winning photos, along with the other select photos, are being incorporated into an exhibit created by Gardnerville artist, Beverly Caputo. The exhibit is featured next to a recently finished mural painted by Caputo. The mural depicts key people, places and things of historical relevance to Carson City.

The event will be held on Monday, April 22, 2013 from 5:30 – 6:30 pm on the second floor outside the banquet rooms at the Carson Nugget in Carson City.
Three winners will receive prizes outlined below.

Mural Project spotlights talents of local artist and seeks to engage community

Right now they contain the mural paintings of Kit Carson, V&T Railroad, Dat So La Lee, the Carson Mint, Carson Nugget, Roosevelt’s Speech Capital Building, Carson Brewery and Capital Building; but soon those walls could contain so much more.
“The hope is to show Carson City’s uniqueness as well as the love and pride we have for our home and community,” said Gardnerville artist Beverly Caputo.
OSA banquet ends its 2011 year on a high note
