Nevada 150th birthday commemorative license plates still available
Those new blue license plates with the battle born emblem seem to be a more common site in parking lots in in Carson City these days. That’s no surprise to the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles which is reporting nearly 11,000 sold since July 2013.
The commemorative plates were designed to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Nevada statehood and have generated more than $320,000 in revenue to help support the yearlong sesquicentennial celebration.
"The battle born NV 150 license plate captures our state's rich history and strong sense of pride. They are unique — just like Nevada, and our citizens have enthusiastically embraced these limited edition plates over the past year,” said Lt. Gov. and Nevada 150 Commission Chairman Brian Krolicki. “Besides being a wonderful way to demonstrate their support of our state, the revenues derived from plate sales have been an important source of funding for our yearlong celebration of our state's 150th birthday."
The limited-edition plates will be available for purchase through 2016. Nevada residents can purchase their Nevada 150 license plates online at www.dmvnv.com or at DMV locations.
The DMV is also holding a photo contest to award one “0150” Nevada 150 license plate to the lucky winner who best photographs a Nevada license plate somewhere in the state of Nevada. The photo must be your own and finalists are being picked weekly with finalists posted on DMV’s Facebook page.
The contest runs through Friday, Oct. 24 at 5 p.m. The grand prize winner will be announced on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014. Entries must be emailed to nv150@dmv.nv.gov with contact information and a brief description of the photo being submitted.
