Heading into the weekend, there’s a mountain of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days, including HopeFest9 on Friday, dirt bike races at Fuji Park, a job fair at Eagle Valley Children's Home, and the final weekend of the Jazz and Beyond festival and Levitt AMP outdoor concert series at the Brewery Arts Center.

CARSON CITY — The fundraising arm of Western Nevada College — WNC Foundation — held its fourth annual Reach for the Stars Gala on Aug. 10, raising more than $75,000 to benefit students seeking higher education.

Heading into Monday, August 19, 2019 and that means one thing if you're a teacher, parent or student: It's the first day of class across Carson City School District campuses. Welcome back. Make it a safe, enjoyable experience as this day will create memories that will last a lifetime. Money begets money. And, that statement is true when it comes to the Carson City Parks & Recreation Foundation.

Recently, the Foundation was the recipient of a $20,000 matching grant from the Robert Z. Hawkins Foundation to continue to refresh the Bob Boldrick Theater lobby within the community center that started in February allowing then Chamber Chairman of the Board Bob Fredlund to present the Foundation with a check for $20,300.

Heading into Tuesday, August 13, there's a galaxy of events lined up, beginning at midnight with a meteor shower watch party at WNC's Jack C. Davis Observatory. When the sun arrives there's fitness events, a book talk at the Nevada State Library and Archives, outdoor Carson City jazz festival happenings at Comma Coffee and Bob McFadden Plaza, family movie night at the library and more. The Levitt AMP Carson City summer concert series continues this Saturday, July 27 with two headliners sure to light up the night at the Change Company stage, bringing with them all the flavors of pop, funk and plenty of soul.

TOCCATA-Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus opens its concert series at the elegant Genoa Lakes Golf Club Ballroom at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 31st with a special program.

Good times, sunny skies, activities and more are planned around the Carson City area as we head into Thursday, July 11. CARSON CITY — The Nevada Arts Council announced Friday the awarding of more than $1 million in statewide grants to 172 recipients ranging from individual artists to nonprofit organizations and public institutions for the 2020 fiscal year.

Heading into the Independence Day holiday weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region to keep the next three days jam-packed with excitement.

The Fourth of July will be colored with parades, barbecues, carnivals, concerts and plenty of fireworks around Carson City, Carson Valley, Lake Tahoe and Virginia City.

Carson City Symphony Association’s “Strings in the Summer,” a free program for string-instrument players of all ages, will begin on Monday morning, July 8, 2019. Laura Gibson, Associate Concertmaster of Carson City Symphony, is the instructor and conductor. Registration and tuition are free, donations welcome.

The Tahoe Symphony Orchestra, also known as TOCCATA, helps you celebrate the Fourth of July spirit with family and friends, close to home. Our 14th annual “BOPS” concert, conducted by Maestro James Rawie, is a delightful summer event that we perform at Carson Valley United Methodist Church in Gardnerville on Sunday, July 7 at 4 p.m.

With the weather reaching the mid-80s, now is the perfect time to get out and explore during a jam-packed three days around the Carson City region. Friday has plenty of events to get you to the weekend.

The Carson City Symphony's 35th annual Pops Party concert will be held this Sunday, June 9, 2019 at the Capital Amphitheater, in the park between the Capitol and Legislature buildings.

The Carson City Symphony, lead by David Bugli, will be joined on the program by singer-songwriter Tom Miller and the Carson City Symphony Chorus, led by interim director Ricky Hutton.

Carson High School students not only experienced exciting college, job, and career opportunities outside of school this past week, they were also presented with an explosion of options directly.

Chamber Orchestra Students returned from their successful regional music festival in San Francisco, several CHS students enjoyed job shadowing with Nevada Legislators, and May 21 offered students access to its job and career fair throughout the day.

The Carson High School Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Brian Fox, traveled to the San Francisco Bay Area this weekend to participate in a regional music festival sponsored by Forum Music Festivals.

Recently, several CHS freshman Biology classes had the opportunity to work with fourth graders from Empire Elementary in Carson City. Students learned about conservation, the water cycle, and the Carson River watershed. CHS students, trained by the River Wranglers conservation group, and on a very windy day, met up with Empire Elementary students at Baily Pond.

The list of local students who received scholarships were announced at the Salute to Scholars Program. Listed below are the students; congratulations!

But maybe mother nature is just trying to add a little extra water to the lakes and rivers before shutting down for a hot summer? In this week's edition of It's Your City, host Cortney Bloomer sits down with Stephanie Arrigotti, director and producer of Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company to talk about the upcoming performance of the Tony Award-winning romantic comedy "Crazy for You" coming this May to Carson City.
