Western Nevada Development District receives $400K CARES Act recovery grant

East Fork Fire responded Thursday afternoon to a brush fire in the China Springs area on the west side of Highway 395. Multiple resources are responding, including a brush unit from Carson City that was placed on standby.

Peavine Fire reignites forcing evacuations; no containment, fire burns 1,500 acres

At 9 p.m., the fire was estimated at 1,500 acres and zero percent contained. Local, state, county, and federal firefighters are on scene.

UPDATE 6:04 p.m.: 250 personnel from multiple agencies including the Carson City Fire Department are on scene battling the fire. The acreage is estimated at 650 acres.
NV Energy plan would cut bills by $2 a month for Northern Nevada residential customers

For Northern Nevada electric customers, the utility proposes to decrease rates an estimated $24.1 million or 3.47 percent across all rate classes, which would result in an estimated decrease in the average monthly residential bill of $2.09, or 2.92 percent.

NV Energy program would shut off power in Lake Tahoe area to reduce wildfire risk

Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 06/11/2020 - 10:43amUPDATE 11:14AM: The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning from noon to 8 p.m. Friday for the following areas: Southern Mono County, Southern Sierra Front including Alpine, Northern Mono, Southern Lyon, and Western Mineral Counties, West Humboldt Basin in Pershing County and Lahontan Basin including Churchill and Eastern Mineral counties. The Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for Mono County, Mineral and Southern Lyon counties, Hawthorne, Yerington, Smith Valley, Mina, Schurz, Fernley, Fallon, Lovelock, Silver Springs, Nixon, and Imlay. Carson City, and Carson Valley are not in the Wind Advisory area.

Carson City emergency crews called to crashes on U.S. 50 Spooner, South Carson and Fairview
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 04/16/2020 - 2:41pmUPDATE: The Nevada Highway Patrol, Carson City and Douglas County emergency crews were called to a vehicle crash Thursday afternoon on Highway 50 West, 3 miles up from the Spooner Junction. The crash involves an SUV with airbag deployment and is in the westbound lane. It was reported at 2:57 p.m. Motorists can expect delays. Injuries are unknown at this time.

Stimulus Program Information
The coronavirus relief bill passed March 27 by Congress provides payments to individuals who make less than $100,000 a year. The payment total $1,200 for each adult who makes $75,000 or less, plus $500 per child. The payment amounts decrease if you make between $75,000 and $99,000. The income is determined by your latest tax return filed with the IRS. It will use your 2019 taxes if you have filed them already, or your 2018 taxes if you haven't. Carson City Fire Department knock down brush fire in area of Arrowhead and Hytech Drive

The fire was quickly extinguished and no structures appear to have been damaged.

NV Energy reports nearly 300 Carson City customers without power

An outage was reported in the West Winnie Lane area around at around 10:35 p.m. affecting 271 customers. At around the time of the outage Carson City dispatch reported that a tree limb was down in the area.
NV Energy Customers without power Saturday in Carson City, Washoe Valley due to equipment damage

As of 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning, approximately 40 NV Energy Customers are without power in Carson City and Washoe Valley with damage to equipment being the cause.
According to NV Energy, all power to the three equipment points should be restored by 12:30 p.m.
The areas in Carson City lost power around 5:45 a.m. and 7:22 a.m., while Washoe Valley’s outage occurred around 7:21 a.m.
NV Energy urges not to launch mylar balloons during New Year's revelry
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 12/31/2019 - 10:05amEarly New Year's morning in Carson City circa 1999-2000, a mylar balloon was launched shortly after midnight, knocking out power to thousands of electricity customers around town. The power outage was confusing to many as the nation and world were, at the time, concerned about Y2K issues. The incident generated plenty of conversation around the water cooler during the days that followed.
NV Energy electric rate cut for Northern Nevada customers OK'd by commission
