Carson City sheriff's arrests: Woman tries to buy vehicle from auto dealership using stolen car

A 46-year-old Reno woman was arrested Tuesday for multiple felony charges after allegedly using a stolen car in an attempt to buy a vehicle at a South Carson Street auto dealership, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

UPDATE 3:43PM: All but 13 NV Energy customers were without power as of 3:35 p.m. after a power line incident at Fuji Park knocked out power to at least a thousand customers at around noon Wednesday.

The Capital City Arts Initiative [CCAI] presents its exhibition, "Pocket Ziggurat", by artist Chelsea Pegram at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. It may be a Monday, but it gets us closer to one of my favorite festivities: the Nevada Day Parade. The holidays come rolling along quickly after that. A Holiday Craft Show at Browsers Corner Bookstore will give you a head start on that gift list; consider a Friends of the Carson City Library Membership for your more bookish friends. The World Championship doesn’t begin until tomorrow, so get your sports fix with the Texans/Broncos match-up in tonight’s Monday Night Football game.

Two vehicle crash ties up traffic at Fifth and Curry streets

One person was injured in a two-vehicle crash that happened this afternoon near the intersection of Curry and Fifth streets in Carson City.

The vehicles involved are a Jeep Patriot and a Nissan Pathfinder. The crash was reported at around 3:20 p.m. A female was injured and taken by ground ambulance to the hospital, said Carson City Sheriff's Office Sgt. Scott McDaniel.

NV Energy agrees to price reduction for Northern Nevada electric and gas customers

Electric and natural gas rates may be lowered for NV Energy customers beginning Jan. 1, 2017 following a settlement agreement reached with state regulators, consumer groups, a coalition of local governments, Nevadans for Clean Affordable Reliable Energy and Vote Solar.

NV Energy reports power outages from North Carson City through Washoe Valley

UPDATE 12:21PM: NV Energy reports around 60 customers are without power this afternoon in the areas between East William and Corbett streets. In all there are 137 customers around Carson City without power, 1,198 in Douglas County, 1,827 in Washoe County and 1,121 customers in Lyon County.

UPDATE 9:35AM: NV Energy reports 38 customers in Carson City are without power. High winds are causing multiple extended outages throughout northern Nevada. Crews are out working to restore power to customers as quickly and safely as possible. NV Energy advises to consider any downed power lines as live and dangerous and stay a safe distance from them. Call 9-1-1 to report them.

Thousands are without power Friday morning from north Carson City through Washoe Valley into the Galena area due to wind and wildfire, according to NV Energy.

Firefighters get upper hand on wildfire in south Carson City, wind remains top concern

UPDATE 8:38AM FRIDAY: The Clear Creek fire is 100 percent contained as of Friday morning. Fire crews are keeping an eye on hotspots and embers and were busy overnight with spot fires, said Carson City Fire Department Spokeswoman Stacey Belt.

UPDATE 9:10PM: Approximately 65 homes have been evacuated because of the fire in the Clear Creek area in southeast Carson City. The cause of the fire, reported at 5:38 p.m., is under investigation. Carson City Fire Department spokeswoman Stacey Belt said all the large flames have been knocked down, however there are embers and hot spots. There is zero percent containment as of 9 p.m. There will be crews monitoring the fire throughout the night. Evacuees will not be allowed into their homes before midnight, said Belt.

UPDATE 8:57PM: The Carson City Sheriff's Office has turned over its police operations to Washoe Tribe Police Department because the fire is on tribal land, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong. Carson City Fire Department and other outside agencies continue to monitor the fire, striking down blowing embers and attempting to get a perimeter. The Salvation Army is at Fuji Park providing assistance for the evacuees, said CCFD spokeswoman Stacey Belt.

UPDATE 8:32PM: Clear Creek Fire update From Stacey Belt, public information officer for Carson City Fire Department: As of 8 p.m. there have been no structures lost, no injuries reported, mutual aid is responding from throughout the region. Public Works is responding in the neighborhoods, looking for spot fires.
"We are fighting high winds. Embers are flying. We are expecting the winds to pick up in the next hour. So our goal is to get around this as soon as possible to save this community," she said.

UPDATE 7:58PM: Power is out in the Topsy Lane area, NV Energy work crews are working to restore power. Traffic lights are out in the area. Winds continue to move the fire. No containment at this time. There haven't been reports at this time of structures burned.

NV Energy reports power outage on west side of south Carson Street

UPDATE: 3:55 PM: Power has been restored in Carson City after an outage earlier today affected an isolated area west of South Carson Street.

NV Energy reports a power outage Friday afternoon affecting customers west of South Carson Street.
As of about 1:50 p.m. there were 115 customers without power. See the map above. Calls to 911 dispatch were reports of people hearing an explosion in the area of Thompson Street, with lights flickering and then going out.

NNDA announces cosmetic company to expand into Dayton

Northern Nevada Development Authority announced Wednesday that Cosmetic Enterprises Ltd. will expand its manufacturing facilities into Dayton, Nev. CEL plans to invest a substantial amount of new money in their new Lyon County facility while retaining their existing manufacturing plant in Pacoima, Calif.

Smart Thermostats from NV Energy Save Customers Money

NV Energy residential electric customers throughout northern Nevada can reduce their heating and cooling costs by up to $100 a year and help lower peak energy demand with the PowerShift Smart Thermostat.

This free service, valued at $300, saves energy and maintains customer comfort preferences by continuously adapting the operation of the customer’s heating and cooling (HVAC) equipment based upon how the home heats up and cools down.

Goni area power outage reported in North Carson City

NV Energy is reporting a power outage along Goni Road in North Carson City.

The outage was reported at around 1:20 p.m. Thursday, and appears to have been caused by a folding canopy that hit nearby power lines.

Power outage affects more than 12,400 NV Energy customers throughout Carson City

UPDATE 630PM: NV Energy reports a handful of outages with between 14-25 customers without power this evening in Carson City.

UPDATE 5PM: NV Energy reports 5,626 customers remain without power with the number of outages reduced to two in Carson City.
The outages are centered on South Carson Street and Stewart Street and Fairview and East Fifth Street. NV Energy says the power should be restored by 7:30 p.m. The power company posted this note on its web page:

Power outage affects 10,000 NV energy customers between Carson City, Douglas County

UPDATE 11:56 AM: Some NV Energy customers say they remain without power late this morning after NV Energy reports the majority of the power has been restored. As of 11:57 a.m. the utility says only 2 customers are without power. Messages to Carson Now from customers say many remain without power.
