Let’s give this outdoors thing another try. Yesterday’s Jazz and beyond performances were moved indoors at the Brewery Arts Center when the rain hit, but I have more hope for today’s skies. Look for The Other Brothers Band this evening in the Comma Coffee Courtyard. Carson City BMX hosts practice and racing at the track in the Livermore Sports Complex; all ages are invited to participate, and one day memberships are available for those who’d like to try it out.

Welcome to Wednesday, Carson City. It’s another lazy, hazy day in Northern Nevada. You’ll want to keep your outdoor activities limited when the air is like this, but it understandably leads to a feeling of cabin-fever. Tazmanian Boxing Club, which has distinguished itself over past few years as more than a boxing gym, has moved to a new and much larger location at 3737 North Carson Street in Carson City.

Time marches on. We’ve moved into August, meaning that the end of summer is in sight – even if the temperatures make that hard to believe. You’ll want to continue to take it easy, the smoke from the California fires makes for unhealthy air conditions. Stop by the Carson City Art Gallery this evening for a meet and greet with this month’s featured artist, wood-turner Dave Mills. He will also be demonstrating his craft. Food truck lovers won’t want to miss out on Wheeled Wednesday at the Brewery Arts Center. Let someone else handle the cooking and enjoy some time mingling with your neighbors.

ACCRA, GHANA — Highlighted by a meeting with President Nana Akufo-Addo, the successful first leg of Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval’s trade mission to Africa wrapped up in Ghana on Sunday.

SPARKS — As horse owners travel to equine events and rodeos with their animals, the Nevada Department of Agriculture is reminding owners to exercise caution and use best biosecurity practices to minimize risk of spreading disease.

It can be hard to wait for the weekend, especially when you’ve got the 25th Annual Taste of Downtown to look forward to. The fundraiser for Advocates to End Domestic Violence fills the streets with tasty treats from over 40 local restaurants, several bands, and fun for the entire community; it’s the best party of the summer.

The Greatest Showman on Earth makes an appearance at the Dangberg Home Historic Ranch: it’s Chautauqua night, and Doug Mishler will be portraying “Circus Showman P. T. Barnum.” The Stewart Indian School in east Carson City has history reaching into the early days of our state.

SILVER CITY, Nev. — United Way's annual "Tune into Kids" Fun Fair for preschoolers and their parents takes place Tuesday, July 17 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Silver City town park, next to the Silver City School House/community center at 385 High Street. Silver City is located on the Comstock, 3 miles from Virginia City and 12 miles from Carson City.

The Dayton Farmers Market has opened for the 2018 summer season. The market takes place every Saturday through September from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 60 Second Avenue and Highway 50.

Though not known to carry disease, state agriculture officials are reminding northern Nevadans to report Mormon cricket infestations. In large numbers, Mormon crickets pose a safety threat because they can create unsafe road conditions.

CARSON CITY — More than 200 Carson Middle School future Health Occupations Students of America earned real-world healthcare certifications. Nearly all the students taking Ms. Victoria Jaacovi’s Introduction to HOSA class and Mr. Dayne Carmichael’s Sports Medicine class finished the 2018 school year certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, also known as CPR.

When organizers formed the Greenhouse Project 10 years ago in Carson City, their vision was to establish a sustainable program that provided wholesome, natural produce to the community.

What Carson City has benefited from over the past decade is exactly that.

Carson City School District's Nutrition Program hosted "Breakfast with a Hero" Wednesday morning at Bordewich Bray Elementary School. School Resource Officers and other local law enforcement took time to serve and sit and eat with students.

CARSON CITY, Nev.– Joe Covington and his wife Sheila Covington, both 83, have been Carson City Meals on Wheels clients for almost five years. Covington said both of them love the program, but Sheila Covington said she worries about the funding.
