Sixth annual Carson City Empty Bowls Dec. 7 at Carson Mall

For six years now, the Carson City community has been helping to feed the hungry through Empty Bowls, an international project to combat hunger worldwide, with an annual fundraising event during the Christmas season.

Bring a friend and/or friendly dogs. All hikes are 2-4 miles with duration of about 90 minutes, sometimes with elevation gains of 500’ or more. Water and sturdy or athletic shoes are required. Hat, sunscreen and hiking poles recommended. Some trails are dirt and others are paved.

Join us for free hikes each week to enjoy Nevada outdoors! Meet at parking lot directly across from the Nevada Supreme Court on Stewart Street, between 5th and Musser Street. We will do a partial East Side Historical Tour. After the walk join us for hot chocolate/coffee at Comma Coffee.

All hikes start at 5:30 PM. For the winter, these hikes are moving onto paved paths in town and will be 3-5 miles long and with duration of about 1-1/2 hours. Water and sturdy boots or athletic shoes required. PLEASE BRING A FLASHLIGHT because it is dark on these walks.

Senator Square: Carson High senior fulfills graduation requirement through call to action

Carson City based Pets of the Homeless founder and director featured on It's Your City

Carson City Obituary: Andrew Ortiz

Andrew Ortiz, 27, of Carson City, Nev., passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2018. Andrew was born with much joy in Carson City to Dan and Katie Ortiz on September 12, 1991.

He graduated from Carson High School. He worked as a Caregiver for Chrysalis. He served in the Army. He was involved in various recording projects, and he loved creating music with every fiber of his being. He was passionate about writing lyrics and poetry.

Salvation Army in Carson City seeks to serve 500 with Turkey Drop

UPDATE: 6:18PM: Salvation Army Cpt. Mark Cyr has reported 344 turkeys were donated during today's 21st annual Turkey Drop. Monetary donations today amounted to $8,693.

"We're very happy with the results of the drive and the continued support from the community," Cyr said.

Grocer Launches Salvation Army Fundraiser for Camp Victims

Save Mart and FoodMaxx grocery stores have launched a fundraiser to collect monetary donations for The Salvation Army and its relief efforts in Butte County, Calif., affected by Camp Fire.

Shoppers can donate any amount at checkout and 100 percent of the proceeds will aid local victims. The donation will be printed on the receipt, so shoppers have a record of their tax deductible donation.

All Save Mart and FoodMaxx grocery stores in California and Northern Nevada are participating in this fundraiser, including those locations around Carson City.
