Blooming wildflower beauties

The Shasta Cascade region comes alive this time of year as vibrant blooming wildflowers show off their stunning colors. Thanks to Mother Nature it should be an excellent year for wildflower viewing due to all of the snow and rain fall the area has received. The best time for wildflower viewing is normally during the months of April through June in the lower elevations, and June through August in the higher elevations.

With the substantial amount of rain the region has received this winter and spring, the water levels are up and enticing.
Not to mention summer is just around the corner!

It’s time to start planning your houseboat vacation in the Shasta Cascade region and enjoy an experience to remember.

Depending on which houseboat you choose, you can be sliding down two or three story waterslides into the cool, refreshing lake water.

Carson City's ComputerCorps opening Reno store

Reno computer users will now be able to enjoy the refurbished computer products from Carson City based ComputerCorps starting April 29-30 when the nonprofit organization opens its doors at 3595 Airway Drive, Unit 407.

Grand Opening is Friday, April 29th from 9 am to 4 pm and Saturday April 30 from 9 am to 1 pm. Reno residents are welcomed to visit the new store and enter a daily drawing for a free computer system during the Grand Opening.

Thanks to an abundance of rain and snow fall, many of the waterfalls are roaring this season. They are best seen during early spring to late summer, with some flowing year-round.

Join Anytime Fitness in Carson City This Month and Help Feed Hungry Children Right Here in Our Own Community

CARSON CITY, NV – January 7, 2011 – Over twelve million children go hungry in America every day, thousands right here in the State of Nevada. In an effort to contribute to feeding the hungry children in our community, Anytime Fitness of Carson City will donate $10 for each new membership this month to Food for Thought, a local non-profit organization that provides weekend meals to over 800 children in our community. Many of our children only receive the food they need during the school week.

Heavenly Foundation ski and board swap this weekend at Lake Tahoe's MontBleu

The Heavenly Ski and Snowboard Foundation will host the 22nd annual Ski and Snowboard Swap at Lake Tahoe's MontBleu Resort Casino and Spa on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 19-20.

Proceeds will benefit the Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides Lake Tahoe ski and snowboard programs for regional youth, local middle school students, and the S.O.S. program.

Lands bill contains money for Kings Canyon, Carson River Canyon property

The Secretary of the Interior announced the approval of $90 million in funding for continued restoration at Lake Tahoe along with other park and trail projects in Nevada as part of the Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act.

The funding includes money for the purchase by the Forest Service of the 13 acre Schulz property near the Kings Canyon Waterfall as well as funding up to 40 percent of the $1.6 million for the acquisition of the Bently, Carson River Canyon property. The balance of the funding and future management will be through the City’s Open Space Program.

Winnemucca Community Garden Team Selected to Represent Nevada as USA Delegates to 2010 Worldwide Terra Madre Food Conference in Italy

Four representatives from The Winnemucca Community Garden (WCG) will be the only delegates from the state of Nevada to represent the United States when 5,000 representatives from the worldwide Terra Madre network meet in Turin, Italy this October. This event, in its fourth year, coincides with the international Slow Food Fair.

NV Energy giving V&T reconstruction commission $100,000 check
