A walk with Parks and Rec, a movie viewing with the Classic Cinema Club, and life-sized board games at the Library are all on the docket for today. The big story, of course, is National Night Out with the Carson City Sheriff's Department. Free food, activities, fun, and even an aircraft or two descend on Mills Park for the annual party.

Carson City Sheriff’s Office DARE officer Lisa Davis holds the receipt for these items rung up at Grocery Outlet in preparation of Tuesday’s National Night Out from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Mills Park. Donors and Grocery Outlet have covered the cost of food and refreshments that will be served up free at the 14th annual family event.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office will hosts its annual National Night Out from 5 p.m. to 8 pm. This will be the 14th year that the Sheriff’s Office has held this free public event that annually draws thousands of participants.
Safest street party in Carson City to be thrown Saturday at 13th annual Cops and Kids

The 13th annual Cops and Kids is an all-out community gathering where parents and children can participate in games and activities all designed with family, health and safety in mind. The street party spans two blocks and features refreshments, music, safety demonstrations, games and more. It regularly sees at least a thousand or more children in attendance.

Of the five nomination categories, one name stood out for nomination for Deputy of the year, Deputy Carl Howell who was killed in the line of duty Aug. 15, 2015.
Grocery Outlet customers fill 160 bags of food, donate nearly $1,400 in July hunger drive
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 08/06/2015 - 9:17pmGrocery Outlet in Carson City held its 5th Annual Independence From Hunger Food Drive through July with customers donating 160 bags of groceries and giving $1,387 in cash to a local food bank.
This year's recipient of the donations was the Dayton Food Pantry. Freida Carbery, volunteer coordinator for Healthy Communities Coalition, which operates the Dayton Food Pantry, was at the Carson City Grocery Outlet Store this week and extended her thanks to store owners David and Lynne Cox, employees and the Carson City community.
Thousands show at Mills Park for Carson City National Night Out 2015

As the Carson City region continues to experience similar and strange weather this summer, the skies threatened a bit but ultimately held out for the 13th annual National Night Out with an astounding community turnout. It was as if locals had put all their energy from last year's disappointment to this year's celebration.

There's plenty of activities today plus Hot August Nights continues in the Reno and Sparks areas. It's National Night Out at Mills Park, which always has a huge turnout. Here's what's happening today:
•*Back to School at Carson Hot Springs (Free 17 and younger admission per paid adult; outdoor pools only; 7am-10pm)
•*One Putt Jr. Academy at Silver Oak Golf Course (7:45am sign in, 8am-10am; $40 per class or $200 for six classes: includes Green Fees, Pull Cart, Golf Clubs, Gatorade; space limited, ages 7-12)
•*Carson City Parks and Recreation Easy Walk: Linear Ditch Trail West– Meet in the first parking lot at Governor's Field on Evalyn Drive off of Roop Street (8am-9am; bring bottled water)
2015 National Night Out Carson City returns Tuesday to Mills Park

Returning this year after a last minute cancelation in 2014 because of heavy rain, this three hour annual family event is designed to bring children and their parents to the park for activities, music, information booths, demonstrations, hot dogs and refreshments. Festivities begin at 5 p.m.

Francisco X. Pegueros, President and CEO of DARE America and Special Agent in Charge of the DEA Los Angeles Field Division Anthony D. Williams made the announcement. The coveted award is given to a senior law enforcement officer who epitomizes an extraordinary commitment to drug prevention and enforcement.
Deputies, GATE students partner for a day at the Carson City Sheriff’s Office
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 01/08/2015 - 12:28pmSchool children from Carson and Eagle Valley middle schools involved with the Gifted and Academically Talented Education program took a walk on the side of the law Wednesday to get a glimpse of three areas of the Carson City Sheriff’s Office: The Gang Unit, K9 and Special Enforcement Team, and the Mounted Posse.
It was the second year the sheriff’s office has worked with GATE students. Last year, the program focused on the K9 Unit, but this year, Lt. Brian Humphrey said he wanted to incorporate two more layers of the sheriff’s office for the kids to learn.

Carson City recognized for Partnership in Action crime prevention programs

This accomplishment was achieved even though a substantial rainfall prevented our August National Night Out in Mills Park. That cancelation was the first in 12 years.

With the last-minute cancelation of Carson City’s National Night Out because of recent heavy rain saturating Mills Park, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office took some of the donations for the event and turned them loose for the hundreds of kids at the Russell Way club.

Carson City National Night Out ranks among best in the U.S.
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 12/16/2013 - 5:05pmThe Carson City Sheriff’s Office has been informed that this year’s National Night Out, held in Mills Park in August, has been awarded 5th place among communities nationwide of populations between 50,000 and 99,999.
Carson City placed just behind Maple Grove, MN, Terre Haute, IN, Brooklyn Park MN, and Suffolk, Va. This award is Carson City’s eleventh consecutive year of receiving national recognition, each year climbing higher on the placement list of top rated community events.
Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong announces fourth term run

In what Furlong described as three "politically quiet but challenging years," crime statistics have trended downward since the 2010 election, which is remarkable given Carson City's economic climate as it continues to deal with the effects of a deep, prolonged recession.
Carson City celebrates National Night Out with new community initiatives

The themes for the evening were community and neighborhood partnership and outreach. Judging by attendance, it was one of the largest gatherings thus far for the annual summer event, hosted by the Carson City Sheriff's Office.
"The turnout is one of the biggest I've seen," said DARE officer Lisa Davis, a coordinator of the event. "It says a lot about our citizens who have come together for a cause we all want: A safe and healthy community."

Carson City sheriff's staff reaches out to Boys and Girls Club at Spring Safety Fair

On Wednesday, 400 children of all ages got to meet those adults in the field who maintain public safety. The Spring Safety Fair, a partnership through the Carson City Sheriff’s Office and Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Nevada, was a success on all levels.

The goal was to give the United States a "night out against crime." Over 15,500 communities nationwide participate in the National Night Out program, with large-scale celebrations such as the one Carson City has every year, and smaller-scale ones involving demonstrations, block parties, and citizens being urged to leave their lights on against crime.
