The Way it Was Rodeo returns to Virginia City this weekend

Playing host to The Way It Was Rodeo, Saturday and Sunday, the event marks the return of rodeo on the Comstock for the first time in nearly 20 years.

Law enforcement operations in Carson City lead to arrests

The Nevada Department of Investigations with the assistance of the Carson City Sheriff's Office took four people into custody Wednesday after a surveillance operation in 400 block of Corbett Street in which several people fled a residence, law enforcement officials at the scene said.

Carson City emergency crews called to motorcycle crash at Saliman and Fifth Street

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called Sunday night to a crash involving a motorcycle and vehicle in the area of Fifth Street and Saliman.
The crash was reported at 8:48 p.m. The motorcycle rider was reportedly on the ground and bleeding.

Carson City Sheriff’s Motor Unit raises $500 for Catmandu shelter from recent competition

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Motor Unit, which adopted the feline shelter Catmandu as the nonprofit organization it would help through the sale of t-shirts at last month's Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge, presented a $500 check Wednesday to the organization.

“We’re really grateful for all you’ve done for us,” said Linda Buchanan, founder of the nonprofit Catmandu, which has been struggling financially this year to keep its doors open.

Carson City emergency crews respond to motorcycle crash at Highway 50 near Spooner junction

UPDATE 407PM: A Nevada Highway Patrol trooper reports that the incident on Highway 50 eastbound lane near Spooner junction involved a female motorcycle passenger who fell off the back of a motorcycle. She suffered back injuries and was taken via ambulance.

UPDATE: Care Flight, which was scheduled to land near the Park and Ride at Spooner Junction, has been canceled. The rider was taken by ambulance to Renown Medical Center in Reno. We will update as we get more information.

Motor Officer Challenge returns with action packed events Friday and Saturday at Mills Park

Motor officers from around the country return to Carson City this week to train and compete in the 13th annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge at Mills Park.

The event runs Thursday through Saturday at Mills Park with Thursday a practice day for the competitors. The big events that bring the most spectators and participants will be on Friday and Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and feature music, vendors, food, demonstrations and contests.

Tanya Crew, owner of Motorcycle Works in Carson City, has been selected as a finalist for eBay’s new SHINE Awards for Small Business in the woman-owned business category.

The newly created award celebrates the entrepreneurial spirit of eBay’s community of small business owners throughout the U.S. in five categories. eBay selected 15 nominees from over 1500 entries, but the public chooses which business owners win ‘Best in Class’ through online voting.

Far Fewer Citations: 2 ticketed in second Carson City crosswalk safety operation

Last week’s crosswalk safety operation was a wakeup call for Carson City. In just under 8 hours on June 9, 62 citations were issued to motorists who failed to stop for a Carson City Sheriff’s Office employee, clad in bright orange, who crossed area crosswalks.

Thursday, however, was a completely different story.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Motor Unit has adopted Catmandu as this year’s 13th Annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge (Black Cat 13) charity. The Motor Unit will be raising funds through t-shirt sales and donations at the event scheduled for June 24-25 at Mills Park.

Crosswalk operations Thursday throughout Carson City targets distracted drivers

Carson City has had many pedestrian involved crashes in recent years, with some of those resulting in tragedy. So far this year, there have been three pedestrian related fatalities in Carson City. In 2014 there was one fatality and in 2015 there was one.

Ride Carson campaign emphasizes branding efforts

A new campaign is encouraging residents to see Carson City in a new way — then share it with the rest of the community.

Carson City Sheriff's Office Motor Unit offers advanced course for motorcycle riders

The Carson City Sheriff's Office Motor Unit will offer an advanced course for motorcycle riders on June 4 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This class is limited to the first 12 riders who sign up.

Riders will learn techniques and skills used by motor officers. Your instructors will be Carson City Sheriff's Office motor deputies assigned to the Motor Unit. All proceeds go to the Motor Unit training fund.
