Our weather is improving with each passing day and as many of you have noticed, there are more and more motorcycle riders on our Carson City area roadways. This creates an additional challenge when you drive as they are much smaller and difficult to see at times.

Safest street party in Carson City to be thrown Saturday at 13th annual Cops and Kids

An all-ages invitation is extended to the safest street party in Carson City this Saturday at the Carson City Sheriff’s Office.

The 13th annual Cops and Kids is an all-out community gathering where parents and children can participate in games and activities all designed with family, health and safety in mind. The street party spans two blocks and features refreshments, music, safety demonstrations, games and more. It regularly sees at least a thousand or more children in attendance.

Safe Driving Carson City: Merging into traffic requires a good look before taking a leap

There’s an old saying that many of you may have grown up with, “Look before you leap.” These four simple words apply to many situations today. When pulling out onto a street or highway, you should always be looking before you “Leap” out into traffic. Or for the purposes of this article “merge into traffic.”

Motorcycle rider in Dayton taken by Care Flight after crash into school bus

A motorcycle rider was flown by Care Flight after it crashed into a school bus Friday afternoon in Dayton. The crash happened near the intersection of Fortune and Monte Cristo. The was reported to be at least one student on the bus and they were not injured, according to scanner reports.

Emergency crews called to motorcycle crash on Deer Run, two vehicle crash on Highway 50 and College Parkway

UPDATE 4:28 PM: Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called to two separate crashes Wednesday afternoon that happened within minutes of each other. One crash involves a motorcycle on Deer Run Road one mile south of Highway 50 and the other crash happened on Highway 50 and College Parkway.

Nevada law enforcement agencies participate in three-day gang conference

Law enforcement agencies from around Nevada convened in Reno this week for a conference on gangs. The event, which wraps up Wednesday, was hosted by the Tri-County Gang Unit that represents Carson City, Lyon County and Douglas County.

Care Flight called for injured dirt biker at Kings Canyon

A dirt biker was injured Saturday evening in the Kings Canyon area, with Carson City Search and Rescue responding, according to emergency dispatch.

A Care Flight helicopter was called at 7:39 p.m. to pick up the injured off-road motorcycle rider as he was being brought down from the canyon by search and rescue and the Carson City Fire Department.

A 32-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday on suspicion of four felony counts of battery on police officers after deputies were called to a domestic dispute in the 2900 block of Concord Drive, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

A Dayton man and woman were arrested Friday on multiple charges following a shoplifting incident at Walmart in which a loss prevention officer was physically assaulted, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

House Advances Amodei Bill to Increase Local Control of Nevada Public Lands

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Mark Amodei (NV-2) commended the House Natural Resources Committee’s unanimous passage Wednesday of his bill to allow public land to be held in trust for six different tribes throughout Nevada. H.R. 2733, the Nevada Native Nations Land Act, would greatly benefit the people of these regions by providing increased opportunities for economic development.

Rockabilly car show coming to Carson City in June

More than 550 rat rod cars are expected for Rockabilly Riot’s debut event in Carson City this June, tourism officials confirmed Tuesday.

“This is a four-day party wrapped around a car show and celebrating a culture,” said Joel Dunn, executive director of the Carson City Visitors Bureau.

Carson City sheriff’s log: Man jailed for DUI after crashing motorcycle while eluding officer

A 21-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Wednesday morning on multiple misdemeanor charges, including suspicion of DUI, after eluding an officer while on a motorcycle, eventually crashing it and receiving minor injuries, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

UPDATE 9:27PM: The Nevada Highway Patrol reports the crash Wednesday night near Highway 50 East at the corner of Fairview Drive and Gordon Street involving a pedestrian was a fatality. Troopers are at the scene and the crash is under investigation.

UPDATE 8:35PM: Highway 50 traffic has been diverted because of the pedestrian crash Wednesday night at Highway 50 East and Fairview, said Carson City Sheriff's Office Sgt. Scott McDaniel. The stretch of roadway has been blocked at Fairview and Highway 50 and Fairview south at Gordon.

A 34-year-old Stagecoach woman was arrested Thursday in the 2000 block of East William Street on felony suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, gross misdemeanor possession of a dangerous drug without a prescription and possession of a controlled substance, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Carson City emergency crews called to motorcycle crash on North Carson Street

UPDATE: The driver of the red Dodge minivan who rear-ended a motorcycle rider was taken into custody on suspicion of driving while impaired, said Carson City Sheriff's Office Sgt. Scott McDaniel. The Harley rider was not injured.
As of 4:13 p.m. one lane of traffic was open, with motorists being diverted through the southbound median.
