National Do Something Nice Day sounds a lot better than Monday. Jump Around Carson, our city bus, is doing something nice to celebrate its tenth anniversary: free bus rides all day. Here’s a link to the schedule. New artwork has moved into most of the galleries in town. Industrial Art is now at the Library; Divergence just opened at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery; and you’ll find Liz Penniman’s exhibit at the Western Nevada College Gallery.

Fundraiser Sunday in Carson Valley for family of fallen Carson City sheriff's deputy Howell

A fundraiser will be held Sunday for the family of fallen Carson City Sheriff’s Office Deputy Carl Howell at the 5 Clover Ranch in the Carson Valley.

The all-day fundraiser will feature special guest Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt and a video appearance by actor Joe Mantegna, of "Criminal Minds" and "The Simpsons." Headlining band will be Lavish Green. One hundred percent of the profit proceeds from the benefit will be presented to the Howell family.

Carson City emergency crews respond to motorcycle crash at Fairview and Carson Street

UPDATE 612PM: The rider of the motorcycle involved in a vehicle crash early Friday night in the area of Fairview and Carson Street has declined to go to the hospital. According to emergency personnel, the rider was shaken up but was not seriously injured and did not receive injuries that required hospitalization.

School bus, pickup collide on Highway 50 East; 2 injured in motorcycle crash at Spooner

A school bus and pickup collided Friday afternoon on Highway 50 East near Airport Road in Carson City, sending the driver of the pickup to the hospital. The driver of the bus and two children aboard were not injured, said Carson City Fire Chief Bob Schreihans.

The varsity football game against Hug High School starts at 7 p.m. following the Homecoming Float Parade. Catch some live music at Living the Good Life or Westside Pour House. A fundraiser will be held for the family of fallen Carson City Sheriff’s Office Deputy Carl Howell on Sunday, Oct. 4 at the 5 Clover Ranch.

Motorcycle crash at Fifth and Fairview roundabout

Carson City emergency crews were called Thursday afternoon to a motorcycle crash at the Fifth and Fairview roundabout. The crash was reported just after 12 noon and involved a male motorcycle rider and no other vehicle, according to dispatch.

NHP: Two crashes involving three motorcycles reported Wednesday in Carson City area

The Nevada Highway Patrol reports two separate motorcycle crashes Wednesday afternoon involving three motorcycles south of Carson City.

NHP says via Twitter that a motorcycle crash happened just after 3 p.m. in the northbound lane of Highway 395 near Topsy Lane. Care Flight was called. The condition of the rider is unknown at this time.

A motorcycle run event, Bikes for Badges, has been scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 10, in Carson City. While the event honors Deputy Carl Howell and benefits the Howell family survivors, this run also recognizes all the Northern Nevada support that law enforcement agencies receive every day, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

Emergency crews respond to motorcycle crash at South Carson and Eagle Station

UPDATE: An adult male motorcycle rider was injured and has been flown by Care Flight following a crash Saturday afternoon involving an SUV at the intersection of South Carson Street and Eagle Station. A female passenger on the motorcycle did not sustain serious injuries from the crash, according to a Carson City sheriff's sergeant.

Emergency crews sent to motorcycle crash at I-580 at Fairview and 2 other accidents

UPDATE TUESDAY NOON: Nevada Highway Patrol reports Tuesday the motorcycle rider who crashed his bike Monday evening near the ramp at I-580 and Fairview had non-life threatening injuries. NHP also reports there were no injuries on a single-vehicle Jeep accident that flipped in the area of Spooner Junction.

Thousands mourn slain Carson City sheriff’s deputy Carl Howell at funeral service

RENO, Nev. — Carson City Sheriff’s Office Deputy Carl Howell was remembered for his heroism and being a “true warrior” by those who knew him best as they shared their memories among thousands of mourners who gathered for a funeral service Thursday at Reno Events Center.

Howell, 35, died Saturday, August 15, 2015 in the line of duty responding to a domestic violence call at an East Carson City home. He was married to wife Rachel and is a father of four children. He was a nine year veteran of the Carson City Sheriff's Office having started serving in March 2006.

Learning a thing or two isn’t just for the K-12 crowd, though. Head over to the Brewery Arts Center tonight for a free presentation on the History of Motown by John Shipley. Tickets to tomorrow’s Music of Motown performance at the Community Center are still available. The show features a band led by Lloyd Williams, popularly known as the lead singer of Otis Day and the Knights from Animal House.

Care Flight called to vehicle crash involving motorcycle on South Carson Street

Care Flight has been called to a crash involving a vehicle and motorcycle that happened shortly after 11 a.m. Saturday in the 2800 block of South Carson Street.
Emergency crews have responded and traffic in the area is being re-directed.
The condition of the motorcycle rider is unknown at this time.

Carson City sheriff’s log: Inmate booked on felony warrant for attempted arson

A 36-year-old South Lake Tahoe man was booked Saturday at the Carson City Jail on a felony warrant alleging attempted arson and other crimes, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Dachshund lovers may want to head to Fuji Park for the Silver State Sausage Society Sausage Social: try saying that one five times fast.
