Greenhouse Project, Carson Tahoe Health offer 2020 Foothill Garden Education Series starting Friday

The first of a series of 12 educational gardening classes presented through the collaboration of Carson Tahoe Health and The Greenhouse Project begins this Friday, Jan. 24. Site managers Cory King and William Pierz have put together the monthly series of classes.

Misfits Theater Group Holds Auditions for Spring Melodrama

The Misfits Theater Group in Dayton is holding auditions for its Spring melodrama “Showdown at Phingerdoo or Bad Day at Dead Frog Flats” on Sunday, January 26 at 6 p.m. at the Dayton Library, 321 Dayton Valley Rd, Dayton. This old-time melodrama directed by Andra Woolman is set in the Wild West and has a cast of eight (8) men and five (5) women. As with all melodramas, good triumphs over evil, love wins out, and laughs abound! Performance dates are April 24, 25, 26 and May 1, 2, 3 at the Odeon Hall in Dayton. About this time of year, I find my interest in gardening waning a bit. For one thing, it’s hot. For another, it’s already September and the first frost may not be far off, so why bother. In years past, I reminded people to expect the first frost around September 15 in most areas.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division is asking for assistance in identifying a credit card fraud suspect.

Carson City woman jailed for domestic battery after punching man following laundry dispute

A 35-year-old Carson City woman was arrested in the 1000 block of Woodside Drive on Friday evening for domestic battery first after deputies were dispatched to the area in reference to a person who was attempting to gain access into other tenants’ vehicles, according to a sheriff's deputy report.

Carson City man arrested for DUI causing death

A Carson City man was arrested in the 3100 block of Debbie Way Thursday morning for a DUI causing death warrant and failure to exercise due care warrant.

Mark Riesen was arrested after deputies were dispatched to the residence to complete a warrant service.

Both warrants were issued out of Carson City Justice Court on May 1, 2019.

He was taken into custody without incident.

Bail: $30,000

— A 40-year-old Silver Springs woman was booked on two additional warrants while in custody at the Carson City Jail.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division is asking the public’s assistance in locating a runaway juvenile female. Goldie Consalvi, age 17, was last seen on May 1, 2019 in Carson City. Information received is that Goldie may be in Carson City or the Reno, Sparks area.

Nevada Dept. of Agriculture lifts EHV-1 horse quarantines, restricted travel recommendations

As of Wednesday, May 1, the Nevada Department of Agriculture has lifted all quarantines for Equine Herpes Virus – Type 1 (EHV-1) in the state. One positive case related to an aborted horse was confirmed in Humboldt County; no quarantine has been issued for this case because the incubation period has passed, and no horses have been moved to or from the property.

Teenagers aren't joining the workforce, and Carson City pool programs are suffering

Summer is a time for ice cream, bike rides, carnivals, and of course, swimming. However, there is a shortage of lifeguards nationwide so extreme that pool programs are in jeopardy of shutting down.

“We are a part of the aquatic community that is suffering right now,” said Mike Freeman, Recreation Program Manager at the Carson City Aquatics Center.

Final season of path construction along State Route 28 at Tahoe begins this month

CARSON CITY — Final construction of State Route 28 shared use path, water quality and traffic safety improvements will begin April 22 with single lane closures and short-term full road closures south of Incline Village at Lake Tahoe. Project completion is anticipated for early July and will be announced prior to opening.
