Apple picking, state park hikes, live music and more highlight weekend events in Carson City area

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Franktown Apples in Washoe Valley is hosting apple picking Friday through Sunday. In celebration of National Public Lands Day, Nevada State Parks will have a fee-free day on Saturday filled with hikes and tours. Combined with live music and dinner at local restaurants, the weekend will be filled with excitement! Read on for more information.

New safety guidelines for the state of Nevada have been enforced, so please make sure to wear a mask and practice safe social distancing.

Friday, September 25
Apple Picking in Washoe Valley at Franktown Apples (all day). Franktown Apples, also known as Apple Basket U-Pick Apple Orchard, will be open every day 9 a.m. to 5 p.m from Sat., Sept 19 through Oct. 19 or until apples are gone. Franktown Apples is located at 7425 Franktown Road in Washoe Valley.

Carson River Canyon Railbike Tours. 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 4650 Eastgate Siding Road. Visit Carson City, in partnership with the V&T Railway Commission, have announced an all-new attraction unlike any other in northern Nevada. Railbikes will run Tuesday-Sunday, four times a day 10 a.m., noon, 2p.m. and 4 p.m. Excursions are $45 per person. Tickets may be purchased online at vtrailway.com.

Wester Nevada College's Golf for Education. 9 a.m. at 2201 W. College Parkway. The 21st annual Golf for Education will be held on Friday featuring great prizes, food, drinks, awards and more!

Home Instead Career Fair in Carson City. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 444 W. Beers in the Brewery at The Union Carson. 4 to 5 p.m. 302 N. Carson St. Join us in the brewery every Friday for a free beer tasting! Come and stop by the brewery to taste a couple of our house beers and have a few small bites while we teach you what makes each of our featured beers unique and delicious!

Harley Davidson presents Electric Soup. 4 to 8 p.m. at 2900 Research Way. Come join us for some live music! Russ Hohenberger on drums, Steve Shaw on Bass, and Ev Musselman on guitar and lead vocals.

Virtual Open Mic Night at A to Zen. 6 p.m. at 1803 N. Carson St. In light of COVID-19, A to Zen Gift Shop in Carson City is hosting a virtual open mic night every Friday at 6 p.m. Interested participants can record their performance and send the video with the link above.

Drive-In Cabaret at the Brewery Arts Center. 7 to 9 p.m. at 449 W. King St. Join us for an evening at the drive-in featuring songs by our talented Wild Horse kids and teens up on the movie screen at the BAC! The theme for this month's Cabaret is "Dream Roles" with songs from everyone's favorite characters including Elphaba from "Wicked," Eliza from "Hamilton," and Evan from "Dear Evan Hansen."

Friday Night Karaoke at the Whiskey Tavern. 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at 3481 Hwy 50 E. in Carson City. Come hang out with the Whiskey Tavern and J and M Productions as we sing the night away every Friday! Must be at least 21 years old.

Saturday, September 26
'Keep Tahoe Blue' Tahoe Forest Stewardship Day celebrates National Public Lands Day (all day). Volunteers of all ages and skill levels are invited to help us celebrate National Public Lands Day through this fun, hands-on restoration event. By pitching in, you will help improve ecosystem function and the wildlife habitats that surround Lake Tahoe. Healthy forests and meadows act as natural pollution filters to Keep Tahoe Blue.

Public Lands Day celebrated Saturday with fee-free day at Nevada State Parks (all day). Nevada residents and visitors are invited to celebrate Nevada Public Lands Day this Saturday, Sept. 26 with a “fee-free” day at Nevada’s State Parks. Park fees, including entrance, camping (Saturday night) and boating, where applicable, will be waived at state parks throughout Nevada.

Carson City Farmer's Market. 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the corner of 3rd and Curry St. The Carson City Farmer’s Market has returned every Saturday with fresh fruits, vegetables and much more!

Volunteer for National Public Lands Day with cleanup of path along Carson City freeway. 9 a.m. We will be walking the Freeway Multi-Use Path picking up litter and removing goathead thorns. Registration is required, please email mgargano@carson.org to register.

Partnership Carson City hosts safe at-home drug disposal day. 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Smith’s Drug and Food store, 599 E. William St. Partnership Carson City, founded to develop a healthy community, and other partners are educating the community about how to safely dispose of prescription drugs this Saturday. Partnership will have a collection box for safe disposal of sharps (syringes) and providing free Deterra Bags for safe-at-home disposal and lockboxes for storage.

Annual Fleet Reserve Auxiliary rummage sale in Carson City. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Veteran’s Hall located at Second and Curry Street. Get an early start on your Christmas shopping and show support for your local veterans Sept. 26-27 in Carson City with the fourth annual Sierra-Tahoe Auxiliary Unit No. 137 Fleet Reserve rummage sale.

Pumpkin Patch at Artsy Fartsy Gallery. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 405 N. Nevada St. Join Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery in the front yard for our first ever "Pumpkin Patch". The yard will be decorated with hand blown art glass pumpkins, recycled barbed wire pumpkins, pumpkin earrings, and many more pieces of "Pumpkin" themed art.

Nevada Artists Association Autumn Show. 12 to 4 p.m. at 449 W. King St. The Nevada Artist Association is proud to present the 2020 “Autumn Show” and the beautiful works of Featured Artists Karen Kreyeski and Maggie Stillwell. All the work in these shows is from Nevada Artist Association members. These shows are open to the public through Oct. 23rd. NAA is the largest Fine Arts Gallery in the Carson-Tahoe area featuring work from over 140 Northern Nevada artists, including paintings, photographs, sculptures, gourds, jewelry, textile art, glass, pottery, prints, cards and more.

Patio Wine Dinner at Cucina Lupo. 6 to 8 p.m. at 308 N. Curry St. We want to invite you to another wonderful night of delicious food and wine pairings on our spacious patio.

Pawnshop to perform at Living the Good Life. 6:30 p.m. at 1480 N. Carson St. A fun night of Rock and Roll. We are observing all current regulations. There is appropriately spaced outdoor seating, even enough room to wiggle at your table!! Call for dinner reservations.

Treasure Land movie showing in Virginia City. 6:30 to 9 p.m. at 100 E Street. Come step back and enjoy the wonder of the cinema at Silverland Inn and Suites as they host a viewing of Treasure Island. The movie starts at 7 pm, doors open at 6:30 pm. Popcorn and beverages are available. Get there on time for the opportunity to win a door prize.

Silver Kings Tour and Paranormal Experience. 7 to 11 p.m. at 291 South D Street in Virginia City. Interested in experiencing the Paranormal? Investigate with our local guides with whom our spirits are already familiar. This four-hour experience will be split up between two historical buildings: The Washoe Club and Mackay Mansion.

Sunday, September 27

Golf Classic at Genoa Lakes Golf Course (all day). This is a tournament-style play taking place at Genoa Lakes Golf Club’s Lakes Course. Attendees can enjoy an 18-hole scramble, lunch, and prize packages for the top three foursomes. Due to social distancing protocols, the tournament will take place by registering for selected tee times. Tee times will be scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis, so make sure you register soon!

Raiders Game Watch at Jimmy G's Cigar Bar. 9:30 a.m. at 301 N. Carson St. This watch we will have our swag drawing for lots of Raider swag as well as our Nevada Raider Nation. Tickets are $1 a piece or 6 for $5. There will as always be food for paid memberships and if not yet a member we ask for a few duckets into the bucket so we can keep our deal going.

Carson City Jazz and Beyond Music Festival Streaming Series. 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Empire Ranch Golf Course, 1875 Fair Way. Mile High Jazz Band Association continues the 2020 Jazz & Beyond Festival’s series of live-streamed, streamed, and virtual events on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2020, with the second Jazz Brunch. The event, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Empire Ranch Golf, features Cherie and Take This Band.

Camp GOTR (Girls on the Run) is coming to Carson City for the second year in a row! Camp GOTR will be a week-long, half-day summer camp from 8 AM- 12 PM at the Carson City Community Center the week of August 5th- August 9th.

Girls on the Run Sierras is a character-building program for girls in 3rd through 8th grade operating in the Reno-Tahoe area.
