1920’s Speakeasy Opens in Carson City for One Night Only

The Friends of the Nevada State Museum will open a one night only speakeasy as their annual fundraiser on Thursday, September 22. The speakeasy opens at 4 pm in the Nevada Room at the Governor's Mansion.

The theme is the 1920's and will feature suffragists, flappers, and gangsters.

Leisure Hour Club Celebrates Member’s 99th birthday

The October meeting of the Leisure Hour Club included the presence of Julia Bulette, renowned ‘Queen of Tarts,’ who was brutally murdered in 1867. Ms. Bulette is one of several Northern Nevada individuals portrayed by Club member Kim Harris. Pictured are the costumed Ms. Harris along with Carson City resident Betty Berger, who celebrated her 99th birthday a few days before the meeting.

Members of the Carson City Leisure Hour Club will learn of the loves and losses of Julia Bulette, renowned resident of Virginia City, at their dinner meeting on Wednesday, October 18.

Bulette’s murder began a manhunt that last over a year and resulted in the arrest, trial, and the April 24, 1869 execution of John Millian.

In what was the largest gathering of people in Nevada up to that time, 3,000 to 4,000 people were present at the hanging.
