Enacted in 1983 by a joint resolution of Congress and the signature of then-President Ronald Reagan, the proclamation recognized all working women. Thirty-six years later, ABW Day continues to be recognized as a celebration of achievements of business women, members, and the Association.

Over 100 Nevadans in both Carson City and Las Vegas came forward to protest the bill on April 8 during its discussion before the Natural Resources Committee meeting.

Up this week, a prohibition on implanting a microchip in another person and a license plate to support environmental conservation at Lake Tahoe. A bill would mandate an interim study of wildfires. A joint resolution to urge Congress to oppose the expansion of the United States Air Force into the Desert National Wildlife Refuge will be heard. Human trafficking legislation will be considered, and a ticket scalping measure will also be heard.

Nevada a Step Closer to Marriage Equality
Submitted by Nevada Media Alliance on Fri, 05/24/2013 - 11:10amMany people filled the Nevada Assembly chambers in Carson City on Thursday as a resolution to repeal a same-sex marriage ban in Nevada passed 27-14, bringing the state one step closer to marriage equality.
Senate Joint Resolution 13 requires that all marriages be treated equally under the law and removes gender from the definition of marriage. It also specifies that religious institutions can choose not to marry couples of the same gender.
Reno residents, Meredith Tanzer, 42, and Yevonne Allen, 28, have followed the measure closely during this session.

Five Assembly members took the opportunity to speak prior to the vote on Senate Joint Resolution 15. Assemblywoman Irene Bustamante Adams and Assemblyman Skip Daly both spoke in favor of the resolution.
Assembly Passes Marriage Equality Resolution 27-14

Senate Joint Resolution 15 made its way through the Legislature during the 2011 session and needs only to pass in the Assembly before June 4 in order to go to a public vote next year.

Many of the Assembly members took time to speak to the importance of passing the bill. Assemblyman James Ohrenschall was one of those who spoke in favor of SJR 15.
“Unless you’re a Native Americans, we are a nation of immigrants,” Ohrenschall said.

Same-Sex Marriage Bill Passes in Committee

The bill had been amended since it was first discussed in the committee on March 26, with the new language stating that Nevada and its political subdivisions will recognize marriages and issue marriage licenses regardless of gender.
