Nevada Lt. Gov. Mark Hutchison to keynote Thursday's National Day of Prayer ceremony
The Carson City Christian Ministers Fellowship is excited about the upcoming opportunities the community has to gather together in prayer. Beginning early Thursday, May 7 at 7:30 a.m., a room has been set aside in the legislature building, room 3100, for a time of prayer preparing our hearts for the National Day of Prayer.
As has become the tradition we will be gathering at the Capitol Steps at 11 a.m. on May 7. There will be readings of the National Day of Proclamations on the National, State and City levels, with prayer following each reading. The special keynote speaker for this event is Lt. Governor Mark Hutchison.
This event is followed by the very special event: The Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Ceremony which begins at noon in front of the Legislature building.
The next event in the heart of unity in our community is going to be held at the First Presbyterian Church, located at 306 W. Musser Street, on Friday night May 8, at 7 p.m. Please plan to be a part of this memorable evening in our community. This evening will be segmented in multiple directed prayer topics. Each topic will be led by pastors from at least eight different local churches. As we, the community of Christ, unite together in prayer, seeking our Lord, may the power that comes with being united in Christ become our habit.
This year’s theme for National Day of Pray, “Lord, Hear Our Cry,” seems most appropriate with our nation in turmoil as it is today. The verse from 1 Kings 8:28 is calling on God’s people to come together and pray: “Hear the cry and the prayer your servant is praying in your presence this day.” God is waiting for His people to unite together, humble themselves in prayer, trusting in His presence, and He will hear His people and respond to their needs.
The National Day of Prayer was established as an annual event in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. Ronald Reagan signed into law the designation of the first Thursday in May as the annual observance for the National Day of Prayer in 1988.
