California rubber company to move plastics division to Carson Valley

A rubber and plastic manufacturer will move its plastic division from California to Carson Valley in Douglas County and bring 40 jobs along with it, officials with Northern Nevada Development Authority announced Thursday.

Lake Tahoe area ski resorts look for winter employees; to host job fairs Nov. 6-7

Heavenly Mountain Resort, Northstar California Resort and Kirkwood Mountain Resort are accepting applications and will host job fairs in November.

The Lake Tahoe resorts, under parent company Vail Resorts, says it will, for the first time, hire teens 15 and over who wish to work on the mountain. Teens can apply for jobs such as cashiers, ski and snowboard school teachers’ assistants, guest services representatives, parking attendants, cleaning attendants, ticket sales and scanning.

NNDA announces expansion of New Millennium steel facility in Fallon

New Millennium Building Solutions is expanding its Northern Nevada operations in Fallon, the Northern Nevada Development Authority announced Thursday. New Millennium recently began a two phase expansion at its current facility and will hire up to 17 additional employees over the next six months.

Carson City Manager Joins the Nevada State EB-5 Regional Center’s Board of Directors

The Nevada State EB-5 (NVEB-5) Regional Center in Carson City has named Carson City Manager Nick Marano as a member to its Board of Directors. Marano was elected to the position.

Additionally, Marano mentors at the Adams Hub for Innovation and is a member of the Western Nevada College Institutional Advisory Council. Further, he has been an active member of International City Managers’ Association.

Recovery continues: Carson City unemployment falls to 6.8 percent in September

Carson City unemployment fell to 6.8 percent in September, according to figures released Tuesday by Nevada’s Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation. In August, unemployment in Carson City was 7.1 percent. The month's figures count for an additional 200 jobs over-the-year, officials note.

The statewide seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for September registered at 6.7 percent.

Nevada’s metropolitan areas all saw a decrease in their unemployment rates in August, according to the state's Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation. The Carson City unemployment rate registered at 7.1 percent. In July it was 7.2 percent, while the Reno/Sparks area fell to 6.1 percent. The Las Vegas rate dropped to 7 percent.

Following WNC’s graduation in May, I returned to my hometown of Haines, Alaska. Haines is a small town in southeast Alaska, 90 miles north of Juneau. It is home to 1,713 people year round (1,714 when I’m in town) and swells to 5,000 plus in the summer.
