Nevada to participate in national survey to study economic impact of community arts
Submitted by editor on Wed, 02/10/2016 - 5:30pmThe Nevada Arts Council will participate in a national research study, known as Arts and Economic Prosperity 5, to measure the economic impact of nonprofit arts organizations and their audiences.
The study is being conducted by Americans for the Arts, the leading nonprofit arts organization for advancing the arts in the United States. The Council is one of nearly 300 study partners across the U.S. that will help with gathering detailed financial and event attendance data from nonprofit arts and cultural organizations during 2016.
Visitors Bureau: Carson City lodging room revenues increase $2 million over two years

“That means we’re seeing lots of people visiting Carson City,” Joel Dunn, executive director of the Carson City Visitors Bureau told his board Monday evening. “They’re spending money and driving our economy.”
Save Mart store in East Carson City to convert to FoodMaxx, add 25 new positions

When all is said and done, there will be a net gain of around 25 new jobs added when the Carson City store reopens, a Save Mart official said Saturday.
Western Nevada College earns $142,000 STEM grant to enhance tech programs

The grant will allow purchase of a robotic welder and associated curriculum. WNC will use college resources to upgrade its facilities to accommodate the new program.

UNR technology program targets middle school students for careers in computer science

Peterson Products will move its production facility and headquarters from Belmont, Calif., to Lyon County. The company recently leased a building and plans to create up to 70 jobs in Northern Nevada and adding another manufacturer to the region.

In October, 11,620 initial claims for unemployment insurance were filed in Nevada, continuing the stable trend seen over the last several months.
