Save Mart store in East Carson City to convert to FoodMaxx, add 25 new positions
The Save Mart store at 3325 Highway 50 East in Carson City will make a transition at the end of March into FoodMaxx, which is a brand of under Save Mart that operates in northern California. When all is said and done, there will be a net gain of around 25 new jobs added when the Carson City store reopens, a Save Mart official said Saturday.
“We are very excited about coming to Northern Nevada,” said spokeswoman Nannette Miranda. “We know Carson City values a place where they can shop for low prices. We can’t wait to show capital city shoppers what we have to offer.”
A Save Mart store at 565 E. Prater in Sparks will also make the change. When the stores reopen, there will be a net gain of around 50 employees for both stores, said Miranda.
The Carson City store will close March 26 and a remodel of the interior and exterior will begin. Current employees will be offered positions in surrounding Save Mart stores during the construction phase or can apply for new positions with Foodmaxx, she said. A new opening date is forthcoming. Foodmaxx operates 52 stores throughout Northern California.
The conversion of Save Mart stores to FoodMaxx is not new but the venture into Northern Nevada is, said Miranda. The strategy of converting certain Save Mart stores to FoodMaxx began only recently. The footprint began in the 1980s and has been made and is expanding due to the increased demand for “high quality products at the lowest possible prices.”
Two recent conversions in Fresno resulted in more vibrant shopping centers and community satisfaction, she said. According to its website, FoodMaxx is a warehouse-style grocery chain and is membership free.
The Highway 50 East store will permanently have prescriptions transferred to the Save Mart store at 3620 North Carson Street. Only the new Sparks FoodMaxx will have a pharmacy.
“FoodMaxx will provide our shoppers extraordinary value every time they shop. That’s our focus and we will work hard ever day to deliver that to Nevada shoppers,” said Frank Capps, general manager of FoodMaxx, in a news release.
Save Mart Supermarkets operates stores throughout California and Northern Nevada. The company employs more than 16,000 at 211 stores under the banners of Save Mart, Lucky, FoodMaxx, S-Mart Foods and Maxx Value Foods.
