The Carson City Sheriff's Office young Explorers will host a fundraising car wash; The Marine Corp League can be found at the north Carson Walmart; half of the donations received will go to Deputy Howell’s family fund. And don’t miss out on the drought-friendly water balloon ice bucket challenge raising funds for ALS at Butler Meats on Sunday.

The end of August already: how did that happen? This summer seems to have flown by. I guess that’s what happens when you’re having fun. Those of you gearing up for Burning Man have just a few last days to prepare for the playa. And those headed to Western Nevada College have this one last weekend before it’s time to hit the books. Happy Monday, Carson City. Is it just me, or does the weekend just fly by? If you have some free time, you may want to spend it looking at something beautiful. Industrial Art can be found at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. The Nevada Arts Council is currently displaying the traveling exhibit ‘Wally’s World.’ Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery is where you’ll find one of a kind pieces made by regional artists, and there is something for almost any price range. Don’t miss the amazing photographs in the Sierra Room of the Community Center.

Hold on to your hats, Carson City, summer isn’t ready to quit us just yet. An aviation air show at the Minden Airport, the coin show and fair at the Nevada State Museum, and a fishing derby for the kids at Little Washoe Lake are only the tip of the iceberg. The Pavilion at Mills Park is where you’ll find the annual Carson High Football Boosters Fundraising BBQ. The Quicksilver Dog Agility Trials are always fun to watch, and they’ll be at Fuji Park all weekend. Carson Lanes has family fun indoors and out all day long during their Bowling Blast-off.

The kids are finishing their first week of school, but the summer hasn’t quit just yet. The annual Jazz and Beyond Festival is heading into its final weekend, and as always, going out in style. Tonight, celebrate Count Basie’s 111th birthday with the Mile High Jazz Band downtown on Third Street. Carson Tahoe Medical Center is holding its 5th annual HopeFest concert headlined by the Young Dubliners. Carson's own, Molly Seals, will be performing, as well.

It’s back to school for the kids of Carson City. Please keep an eye out for little ones at crosswalks, and just be prepared for more traffic in general. Learning a thing or two isn’t just for the K-12 crowd, though. Head over to the Brewery Arts Center tonight for a free presentation on the History of Motown by John Shipley. Tickets to tomorrow’s Music of Motown performance at the Community Center are still available. The show features a band led by Lloyd Williams, popularly known as the lead singer of Otis Day and the Knights from Animal House.

It’s a blast from the past weekend. Get started with some history at the Dangberg Home Historic Ranch with the Naughty Tea Mistresses. A walking tour of our haunted past begins at the corner of Third and Curry with the Downtown Ghost Walk. Celebrate Prohibition-style at the Brewery Arts Center: the annual Speakeasy Swing Dance Party wants to see you in your finest zoot suit or flapper dress. Head back to the Eighties at Living the Good Life; DJ Bobby G is spinning the hits from yesteryear.

What a great day in Carson City! Jazz and Beyond continues with Stereo Galaxy at Third and Carson, an outdoor concert at the new Brewery Art Center Minnesota Street Stage, and a special event at the Governor’s Mansion with the Horse Crazy Cowboy Band. Unleash your inner artist at Comma Coffee’s ‘Paint, Drink, and Be Merry’ or at the Senior Center with a special watercolor painting fundraiser. Today is National Lazy Day, and the options for taking it easy are endless. A day spent poolside at Carson Hot Springs, lunch and some live music at Comma Coffee, or just playing some board games with the family at Nerdvana are all good ideas. Dancing the night away is always a fun start to the week, even if it’s not lazy. Check out Rosebud’s Dance Band in the Comma Coffee Courtyard, or head to El Charro Avita for High Sierra Swing Dance Club’s weekly night out. After the Friday wind and rain, we are supposed to see some clear skies: but don’t quote me on that. You know how the weather here can be. The Third and Curry Farmers Market vendors are tough, though, so your weekly dose of fresh produce will be waiting for you either way. Don’t miss the autumn plant sale at the Greenhouse Project booth. The Carson City Historical Society hosts their second yard sale of the season at the historic Forman-Roberts House on North Carson Street, so have fun treasure hunting.

I hope you’re in the mood for music, Carson City. The annual Jazz and Beyond Festival begins today with an art show and concert on the lawn of the Bliss Mansion. Over the next two weeks you’ll have a plethora of melody to choose from at venues throughout town. Enjoy an outdoor concert at Third and Carson with Drinking with Clowns. Sassafras is thrilled to grab Groove Session for a show; they’re usually off touring. Mo’z Motley Blues will give you a reason to dance at Living the Good Life. You’ll want to take a look at the whole list: I’ve only barely scratched the surface.

Hot August Nights and warm August days have arrived. Beat the heat inside one of Carson City’s many art exhibits. The Nevada Artists Association has just begun their Photography Show. Head over to the Brewery Arts Center to see it. If you haven’t been to the Courthouse lately, Capital City Arts Initiative has done an incredible job of showcasing some of the unseen craftsmanship that our local manufacturers create on a regular basis. You’ll find Industrial Arts on the second floor. The arts meet engineering at the Carson City Library. Students from Harvard and MIT will be on-hand to teach kids about various STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) principles as part of the Spokes America Learning Festival.

I apologize, Carson City. You have some decisions to make. There is quite a bit going on whether you want something family friendly, adults only, indoors, outdoors, or a combination of it all. The weekly Farmers Market at Third and Curry St. is always a good way to start the weekend. Yummy food, a bounce house for the kids, and beautiful flowers are hard to argue with. Keep reading for enough fun to make your head spin!

If the Mustangs and Broncos you prefer are horses, rather than Fords, you’ll want to grab a ticket to the Bull Riding Competition at the State Fair. Carnival rides, circus performances, and live music will keep everyone entertained. Make sure to catch the shuttle from the Casino Fandango parking garage: parking at Fuji Park is extremely limited. ‘Break a leg’ to the cast of Peter Pan. Youth Theater Carson City opens tonight at the Community Center.

Seventy-five years ago today, Bugs Bunny made his cinematic debut. Plenty of other animals will be in the spotlight starting Thursday when the Nevada Fair hits Fuji Park. In addition to the free events like the circus, animal shows, and live music, there will be some special events that require tickets. Head over to the Carson Visitor Center on North Carson St. for pre-sale tickets to Bulls and Broncs, the Tractor Pull, or a discounted wristband for a day at the carnival. Just a few more days to wait before Fuji Park is the place to be.

Can you believe it? It’s the last weekend of July and the kids will be headed back to school in no time. Don’t be dismayed though, plenty of summer fun can still be found. Sign the kids up for the Capital City Kids’ Triathlon at the Carson Aquatic Center. Head out to Mills Park for a few laps on the train or a picnic. Don’t miss out on making a bowl for the Empty Bowls project at the Farmers Market; or let the kids run off to the bounce house while you make a bowl yourself.
