Just another Monday in the Capital City. The Legislative Gallery has a new offering: Natural Memorial Realist by artist Max Bunnell of Overton. The gallery rotates every two weeks. The CCAI Gallery in the Courthouse features Nevada Watersheds by Nolan Preece, and the Nevada Artists Association is hosting their Winter Art Show at the Brewery Arts Center.

Carson City sheriff’s weekend arrest log

A Carson City man was arrested Friday on felony charges including possession of methamphetamine for sale after officers found a jar containing several bindles of powder and crystal form of the drug, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Such beautiful weather this week. True to Nevada luck, the chill returns in time for the weekend. Keep your fingers crossed that the storm front brings some precipitation our way. One place it’s seasonally appropriate is the Nevada Artist Association Gallery at the Brewery Arts Center. They will be hosting an artists’ reception for their new Winter Art Show Saturday evening.

Wednesday, Feb. 18: Things to do in Carson City

It’s a great day for the arts in Carson City today. An artist reception honoring Sarah Lillegard will be held at the Nevada Arts Council where her exhibit ‘Second Skin’ is on display. Sande Rowan will share knowledge about baskets around the world in the first of six ‘The Work of Artists’ SENarts events. The Galaxy Theatre brings the Metropolitan Opera back to Carson City this week with an Encore showing of Duke Bluebeard’s Castle, the live showing occurred Saturday morning.

DUI, thefts and warrants make up Carson City sheriff’s weekend arrests

A 47-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 12:49 a.m. in the area of Airport Road and Highway 50 on suspicion of misdemeanor DUI and open container in a vehicle, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

According to the arrest report, an officer responded to a report of a man passed out in a running vehicle. Officers arrived to find a red two door sedan with the motor running and the man sitting in the driver’s seat with his head down.

Runaway teen found safe at grandmother's home in Sparks

UPDATE: A runaway teen, Shailene Garcia, was located and found safe Sunday in Sparks at her grandmother’s residence, said Carson City Sheriff's Office Detective Steve Olson.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office is asking the public for help finding a runaway teen. Shailene Garcia, 15, ran away from home Monday, Feb. 9. Shailene attended a class at Carson High School that morning, but failed to attend her next classes.

Carson City sheriff’s weekend log: felony arrests made for vehicle theft, assault

A Carson City man was arrested Friday, 10:30 a.m. on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle after a brief vehicle pursuit with officers, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Arrested was Adrian Garcia Montez, 21, of Carson City. Bail has been set at $25,000. According to the booking report, deputies were dispatched to a call of an occupied stolen vehicle that was being followed by the victim.

Wonderful Wednesday is upon us, and one way to get over the hump is to head out for a good meal. If you haven’t heard yet, Sassafras has returned and is serving up its Eclectic fare in its new location right next to the Carson Hot Springs. Downtown, the Lake Tahoe Brewing Co. will be hosting the Chamber of Commerce for its Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting. Capital Eats inside Westside Pour House (former home of Mo and Sluggo’s) always has some tempting dishes. A little further north on Carson St., Living the Good Life Nightclub and Bistro has live music this evening and a delicious array of options on its menu.

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of Feb. 2-8, 2015: Beginning, Monday, Feb. 2, the intersection of Jerry Lane and Elaine Street will be closed. Jerry Lane will only be accessible from Ruth Street, but closed to through traffic from the west. Detours will be signed.

Sassafras re-opens at Hot Springs Road location

While many were looking at South Tahoe Wednesday night and a grand opening of the Hard Rock Casino, there was a Carson City opening noteworthy of its own with Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint, re-locating to 1500 Old Hot Springs Road.

As many in Carson City know, the Sassafras in downtown was not only very popular among local foodies, artists and musicians but its following crossed other boundaries, too, from doctors, nurses, deputies and firefighters to old school conservative politicians and progressive lawmakers.

Carson City arrest log: Woman jailed after cashing money orders from missing purse

A Carson City woman was arrested Saturday after allegedly attempting to cash money orders found in a purse that had been reported missing, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said. The woman’s husband faces a gross misdemeanor charge of being an accessory to the alleged crime.

Carson City sheriff's weekend arrests: Man tasered after vehicle, foot chase

A 31-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Saturday in the area of Robinson and Valley streets on suspicion of felony eluding after a vehicle and foot pursuit with officers, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Randy Paul Warstler also faces five misdemeanor charges including obstructing an officer, driving with a revoked license, suspended registration, having no proof on insurance and violation of a suspended sentence. He was arrested at 3:52 a.m.

Carson City sheriff’s arrest log: Man arrested Sunday on suspicion of child abuse

A 36-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 10:21 p.m. on felony suspicion of child abuse. The name of the suspect is being withheld because of the relationship with the juvenile he allegedly abused.
The man is being held on $40,000 bail. According to the arrest report, officers responded to the 1500 block of Firebox Drive in reference to a child abuse report. Officers met with the alleged juvenile victim and a former step mother.

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of Jan. 12-18, 2015. On Tuesday, Jan. 13, the northbound left turn lane at Carson Street and Hot Springs Road will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There will be restricted lanes on East Fifth Street between Linda Kay Court and Parkland Avenue from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Two-way traffic will be maintained. Please use caution.

New tenants sought for downtown Carson City space that formerly housed Sassafras

The principal owners of the building that once housed Sassafras restaurant in downtown Carson City have asked a commercial real estate company to help them find a new restaurant to lease the space at 318 North Carson Street.

The realtor, Jack Brower, said Wednesday that he didn’t know anything about what happened to the tenant that was supposed to go in. He said he was recently asked by the building’s owners to find a new tenant.
