A warmup is in the forecast this week as we head into Monday, Nov. 4, 2019. Expect sunny skies with daytime highs in the upper 60s. But you'll want to bundle up after the sun sets as night time temperatures will be in the low 30s. Activities Monday include a lunch discussion with Nevada Appeal columnist Guy Farmer, the first of free Monday yoga classes offered through Partnership Carson City, art showings, West Coast swing dancing and more.

The Nevada Commission for Women unveiled a limited edition license plate celebrating women’s suffrage as a commemoration of the 100th anniversary of women gaining the right to vote.

The plate itself is historic to Nevada, as it was the first assembly bill, Assembly Bill 499, to be backed by only women. Bills need a majority vote to pass any legislation, and this session was the first session any state in the country saw a legislature with a female-led majority.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be veteran journalist and Nevada Appeal political columnist Guy Farmer. He will relate from first hand experience the story of Frank Sinastra's expulsion from and ultimate return to Nevada's gaming industry.

Featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Mike Hix, board member of Secret Witness, an organization founded in 1979 to afford Northern Nevada community members an opportunity to share information on unsolved crimes while remaining anonymous.

The 11th annual Celebrity Chef & Harvest Dinner, to benefit The Greenhouse Project takes place Monday, Nov. 11 at the Governor’s Mansion, Nevada Room in Carson City.

On Thursday evening, Pioneer High School JAG (Jobs for America’s Graduates) students participated in their annual Initiation and Installment Ceremony at the Governor’s Mansion.

The JAG program at Pioneer High School has made positive changes since its implementation just a few years ago. The JAG program teaches life skills to students and allows them to learn skills such as public speaking, taxes, how to apply for scholarships, car loans, and of course, resumes and cover letters, among many other topics.

Featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Kate Marshall, who on Jan. 7, 2019 became the 35th Lieutenant Governor of the State of Nevada. From 2007 to 2015, she served as Nevada's 21st State Treasurer.

Jobs for Nevada’s Graduates, also known as JAG Nevada, a statewide high school dropout intervention and work readiness program, welcomes Mario Mongolo as the new Regional Coordinator in Northern Nevada based in JAG Nevada’s Reno office responsible for the coordination of JAG programs throughout the northern Nevada region.

The list below has upcoming events for each sport in which our new Athletic Leadership Council is going to push out to their teams and friends to come support one another. The Carson City Republican Committee is pleased to have Mayor Bob Crowell at our Oct. 24 General Meeting to discuss what it has meant for him to be Mayor and how to get involved and participate in City Government.

Heading into Wednesday, Oct. 2 events lined up include Coffee with a Cop at Comma Coffee, Walk and Bike to School Day, a public meeting to discuss stormwater rates, art workshops and showings, a Bee City USA meeting at Greenhouse Garden Center, the first gathering of Women Seeking Safety classes at the Salvation Army, family story time at the library, presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren at the Carson City MAC, Salsa dancing and more.

Governor Kate Marshall will speak at the Douglas, Carson City Legal Professionals monthly meeting on October 2 at 11:45 a.m. The meeting will be held at Red's Old 395 Grill at 1055 S Carson St, Carson City. Joe D’Angelo says he has spent the majority his life helping people. After several failed attempts to bring large-scale community projects to different cities in Nevada, he has now set his sights on Carson City to make his “Joshua’s Community” dreams come to life with the purchase of the Ormsby House. 

CARSON CITY — Nevada health officials will use a federal grant recently awarded to the state’s Medicaid program to grow Substance Use Disorder services.
