GARDNERVILLE, Nev. — The Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Nevada hosts the second annual Summer Soiree fundraiser, formerly the Fall Affair, to help build a clubhouse for Carson Valley members Sunday, Aug. 26, at 4 p.m. in Genoa.

The Nevada Capital Branch of American Association of University Women will be kicking off its 2018-19 program year on August 24, 2018 at 4PM. Members and guests will be celebrating 75 years of advocating for equity for women and girls in Carson City and surrounding communities.

MINDEN, Nev. — According to the Douglas County Sheriff''s Office, the cold case homicide investigation near Gardnerville is over and no human remains were found. Evidently the "anomalies" showing on their equipment were rocks.

Air quality in Douglas County reached the "hazardous"level again Thursday morning, the second time this week, while air quality in Carson City is in the "unhealthy" stage due to smoke from wildfires in the region, according to AirNow.gov.

MINDEN, Nev. — Information from an informant has led Douglas County Sheriff's Office investigators to a Gardnerville area residence where a search is underway for possible human remains on the property that may be tied to a homicide, said DCSO Undersheriff Paul Howell.

UPDATE 10:47AM TUESDAY: Air quality readings in Carson City and Douglas County were in the "unhealthy" range, according to AirNow.gov. The National Weather Service advises periods of degraded air quality will continue. However, many areas could see thinning smoke for at least the next couple days as winds shift to more east to southeast direction. This would carry the bulk of any new smoke away from the area, forecasters say. This may be a short-lived break as westerly flow looks like it will return late in the week and for the weekend.

Air quality monitors in Carson City and Gardnerville are reporting levels of particulate matter in the unhealthy to hazardous range due to smoke from the wildfires in California, according to the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection.

UPDATE 12:08PM: As of noon Monday, Carson City and Douglas County air quality is now in the "Very Unhealthy" category, according to the Air Quality Index, triggering a health alert meaning everyone may experience more serious health effects. Smoke from regional fires has caused the air quality in the Gardnerville area of Douglas County to reach the "hazardous" stage Monday morning, with an Air Quality Index reading of 410, according to AirNow.gov, while Carson City has reached the "unhealthy" stage.

A 30 year-old man was arrested early Friday morning at 12:33 a.m. on multiple drug offenses, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said, including two counts of felony heroin possession, one count of felony methamphetamine possession, and gross misdemeanor possession of a dangerous prescription drug without a prescription.

Under somewhat clearer skies, gusty winds and low humidity are expected to arrive Thursday afternoon, which has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Red Flag warning from 1 to 9 p.m. and a fire weather watch through Saturday.

After horse troughs for the Fish Springs wild horses were destroyed, resulting in $1,400 worth of damage, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's assistance in identifying the people involved in this felony destruction of property.

UPDATE 11:53AM: Carson City and Gardnerville was downgraded to the "unhealthy" category on the Air Quality Index after remaining in the moderate level until around 10 a.m. The "unhealthy" category, in which Carson City was 161 and Gardnerville 162, means everyone may begin to experience health effects, members of sensitive groups may experience more serious health effects.

Casinos in Carson City and Carson Valley areas saw a gaming revenue increase of 7.34 percent in June compared to the same time period in 2017, according to figures released Tuesday by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

GARDNERVILLE, Nev. — The Pine Nut Wild Horse Advocates, a grassroots organization dedicated to protecting local wild horses, was informed Friday by the Interior Department that the Bureau of Land Management will not move forward with the planned massive roundup of wild horses living in and around the Fish Springs area.
