A sunny summer weekend has arrived and it brings numerous fun ways to seize the day. You can always head out hiking or spend the day at the pool, but the Carson City Fair is just here until Sunday. Farm animals, great exhibits, live entertainment, a carnival, and a bull-riding rodeo can be found at Fuji Park. Park your car at the Super Walmart on Topsy and you’ll be treated to a free shuttle. Go a little bit country at the Brewery Arts Center tonight; they are bringing back the Southern Drawl Band to the Minnesota Street Stage for this week’s free concert.

Youth Theater Carson City debuts its newest production, Into the Woods, Jr., at the Community Center and is a great option for a special kids’ night out. Holy moly, what a way to start the weekend. The Nevada State Fair kicks off today in Carson City’s Mills Park and so does the Annual Carson Valley Days celebration in Douglas County. No matter where you are, there is a carnival nearby. You’ll find some fun in downtown Carson tonight with karaoke at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar or at the Westside Pour House. Kick start your bike and head to Battle Born Harley; their Bike Night features live music by the Smoken Rabbits. Keep a sweater handy, the temperature is dipping a little, and will drop even further as soon as the sun goes down.

Carson City and Lake Tahoe area road report: Several closures this week for maintenance

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of July 27 to August 2, 2015. Beginning Monday Little Lane will be closed from Janas Way to Saliman Road for a reconstruction project. The road will remain closed until project completion. Detours will be marked.

The Carson and Mills Park Railroad is a two-foot (narrow gauge) railroad that the whole family will enjoy. Ride behind a replica of a diesel switcher engine and choose an open gondola or a covered passenger car. The 1-1/4 mile trip takes you through beautiful Mills Park and lasts approximately 15 minutes. Everyone is invited, especially children of all ages.

Lake Tahoe Summerfest Classic Concert series launches 2015 season with 'Passport to a World of Music'

Lake Tahoe SummerFest’s fourth season, “Passport to a World of Music,” will bring Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn to audiences July 31 – Aug. 16. The three weekend series of nine different concerts will transport attendees through masterpieces translated by renowned artists and a nationally acclaimed orchestra of 40 players.

Heavenly ski resort at Tahoe shifts to spring operations, Sierra launches lift ticket deal

Beginning on Monday, March 30, Heavenly Mountain Resort at south shore Lake Tahoe will offer mountain access via the Heavenly Gondola in the Heavenly Village for the remainder of the season and Stagecoach Express through Sunday, April 5.

All mountain operations on the California side will close March 30, a week ahead of schedule. The resort will operate 11 lifts, accessing 27 trails. Mountain Operations staff continue to closely monitor and assess conditions daily. At this time the resort is still planning on closing on April 19.

The Carson City Parks and Recreation Department is gearing up in preparation for the second year of the Nevada Fair. This year’s event will be held July 30 through August 2 at the Carson City Fairgrounds at Fuji Park, 601 Old Clear Creek Road.

Heavenly resort at Lake Tahoe opens Nevada side Stagecoach Express

Cooler temps in the Sierra above Lake Tahoe have allowed Heavenly Mountain Resort to utilize the West Coast’s largest snowmaking system in order to expand terrain and open Stagecoach Express on Saturday, offering a second access point to the mountain, as well as top-to-bottom skiing and riding on the Nevada side.
