Hello fellow anglers. I finally got out to do some serious fishing last weekend. Renee and I joined our friends Tom And Shelly Blotter at Bridgeport Reservoir.

The trip started out a little precarious. We arrived on Saturday afternoon to a steady 25 to 50 mph wind. Which kept us off the lake until Sunday.

Following a successful three-day operation in October, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service this week released more than 4,600 Lahontan cutthroat trout into Lake Tahoe, helping to restore the iconic species to its native waters.

Lahontan cutthroat trout are the largest inland cutthroat trout in the world and the only trout native to Lake Tahoe.

Food Bank of Northern Nevada has multiple sites where they are accepting donations this Friday, May 29, including Friends in Service Helping (also known as FISH) thrift stores in Carson City and Minden.

Late Spring is in full swing in the Tahoe Basin and Tahoe black bears are searching for food. Intentional or unintentional feeding of bears results in unwanted bear behaviors, increased human-bear conflicts, and public safety issues as well as fines and possible jail time for violators.

Between milking the cows in the morning and getting that milk to market, and collecting the eggs at day's end and getting those eggs to market, who has time to date?

Two 23-year-old New Mexico men and a 26-year-old Carson City man were arrested in the 5000 block of Carson River Road for felony possession of or receiving stolen property.

According to the report, Stephen Henderson, Daryne James Deck and Terrance Dale Shields were arrested after deputies were dispatched to the Carson River Park to meet with the theft victim.

Hello fellow anglers, welcome to Memorial weekend. As many of you know, Inyo County is closed to fishing until June 1st. But on May 22 the Mono County Board of Supervisors wrote a letter to the CDFW director Charles H Bonham, requesting the reopening of fishing season earlier then their previous request. As of May 23rd, Mono County is now open for the 2020 fishing season, right along Alpine County that opened on May 15th.

For those that will be getting out, Alpine County is open for fishing throughout the county.

Hello fellow anglers. Well I have some good news to share with you. Trout season in Alpine County is officially open as of Friday, May 15, 2020. The county decided to re-access its season opener from the original request of June 1. on Thursday, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife granted the request.

Another great deed: A huge thank you to Lisa Hollenbeck, the President of Cap City Passport Rotary Club and Joe Lushina, the President of Carson City Rotary Club for this kind and generous donation from our local Rotary Clubs.

These funds will help us to provide food at our three different food banks and our Carson City dining room, which has vastly increased in demand due to COVID-19.

Farmers Insurance Northern Nevada's District office in Carson City nominated and secured a $1,500 grant for Friends In Service Helping, also known as FISH, to give additional support during the COVID-19 crisis.

At this time with so many having so little due to the pandemic’s impact on the economy, I have decided against purchasing campaign yard signs. If you are inclined to donate to my campaign, I ask that you, instead, donate to the Food Pantry, Food for Thought, FISH – or possibly help a family by providing them a card for Smith’s, Save Mart, Raley’s, Walmart or Grocery Outlet.

Friends In Service Helping, known as FISH, provides support to families and people in need by providing food, instruction, shelter and health care. During this crisis, their work in the community is more important than ever.

Hello fellow anglers. As many of you know, there is an important date coming up. April 25 was to be the opening trout season opener for many Sierra lakes, rivers and streams. This year because of the outbreak of Covid-19, the California Fish and Game Commission has proposed a new regulation that may temporarily suspend or delay the opener to protect public health.

Even though Friends In Service Helping or FISH, has been part of the community for over 40 years, a lot of people still don't know that FISH is more than just a thrift store.

On Monday, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced it is withdrawing a 2013 proposed rule to list the bi-state distinct population segment of greater sage-grouse as threatened under the Endangered Species Act. The bi-state sage-grouse population is an isolated group of sage-grouse living along the California-Nevada border at the southwest edge of the species’ range.

Hello fellow anglers, it was just a few weeks ago I was planning a trip with my cousin to go to the Snake River for a fishing derby in May. So many things have changed and we all will have to adjust to make sure that we can make those plans again. Hopefully in our near future.

Stimulus Program Information

The coronavirus relief bill passed March 27 by Congress provides payments to individuals who make less than $100,000 a year. The payment total $1,200 for each adult who makes $75,000 or less, plus $500 per child. The payment amounts decrease if you make between $75,000 and $99,000. The income is determined by your latest tax return filed with the IRS. It will use your 2019 taxes if you have filed them already, or your 2018 taxes if you haven't. Gov. Steve Sisolak has ordered — not asked — all nonessential businesses in the state to shut down and cease operations at midnight Friday as part of a monthlong closure to avoid further spread of the novel coronavirus.

But what exactly is an “essential” or “nonessential” business?

This morning we wake up to a new reality in Carson City.

Last night at midnight, by order of Gov. Steve Sisolak, all casinos and gaming machines in Nevada shut down, and with them a large chunk of the state's tax revenue.

Today at noon, all non-essential businesses are supposed to close their doors. A majority of the state's workforce is starting today not knowing if they have a job, if they will be paid, or how they will pay their bills.

Ronald Bratsch, a Carson City Veteran, Security Manager and longtime fiscal conservative is announcing his candidacy for Carson City Supervisor Ward 4.

Heading into Tuesday, sunny skies and more springlike weather are ahead before active weather patterns start up again later in the week. Activities lined up around the capital city include morning and evening walks hosted by Muscle Powered. You can join true crime, paranormal writer Janice Oberding at Nevada State Library and Archives for a brown bag luncheon. Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. The monthly Downtown Carson City Wine Walk takes place Saturday followed by a performance from Tom Petty and Rod Stewart tribute bands during The Do Drop In’s “A Face in the Crowd” homeless fundraiser at Fuji Park. St. Teresa School will host its 17th annual Crab Feed Fundraiser. Combined with comedy at the Carson Nugget and Brewery Arts Center, the Carson City region is in store for a busy weekend. Hello fellow anglers. I had to stop and realize what time of year it was the other day. I was in Tahoe for business and had brought a heavy jacket as well as a dress jacket for work.
