Carson City firefighters knock down blaze overnight at vacant apartment off Little Lane near Roop, one unit destroyed

UPDATE 10:54AM: One of the five units in the fire was completely destroyed and another unit moderately damaged, said Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon. The cause is under investigation.

UPDATE 1:43AM: As Carson City firefighters were being released from the Little Lane incident, they were called to a small brush fire in the 3500 block of Gordon Street near Classy Seconds. The 1 foot by 1 foot warming fire was quickly knocked down.

UPDATE 1AM: Little Lane has been reopened. The cause of the fire at the vacant apartment complex under construction is under investigation.

UPDATE 12:37AM: Nearby residents report the fire at Arbor Villa apartments appears to have been knocked down. A Carson City Fire Department battalion chief reports NV Energy and a fire investigator have arrived on scene. We've uploaded a video here by Carson Now reader Bianca Miranda that was taken at around the height of the blaze.

UPDATE 12:07AM: Firefighters are making progress on the fire, according to a battalion chief on scene. NV Energy has been called for arcing power lines that are considered hazardous. No injuries have been reported.

UPDATE 5:25PM: Carson City Fire Department is on scene at a vegetation fire on Sierra Vista Lane. The fire is contained and no structures damaged, according to Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon. The fire is estimated at 2 acres. Mutual aid was provided by East Fork Fire and Truckee Meadows Fire, they are covering the city while firefighters are battling the blaze. The Carson City Sheriff's Office has closed Sierra Vista at Pinion Hills.

Members of Veterans of Foreign War, (VFW), Post 3726 are angered by the damage caused to the new Battle Born Monument on the capitol grounds in Carson City. A handful of skateboarders using the monument as a skate park showed an appalling lack of respect.

We understand that Gov. Brian Sandoval intends to replace the damaged stone by the end of the year. We applaud this decision and fully support him in this endeavor, as this monument identifies Nevadans who have fallen in service to their country.
