Carson City Sheriff's SET arrest pair after finding drugs, needles in motel where child lives

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Team arrested two Friday at a North Carson Street motel after finding drugs, needles and paraphernalia within reach of a small child who lived in the room with his mother, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

Jennifer Brandy Wirowek, 44, was arrested for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, a felony, gross misdemeanor child endangerment, possession of a prescription medication without prescription, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Randall Saucedo, 33, was arrested for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, a felony, gross misdemeanor concealing or destroying evidence, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the arrest report, deputies were called to a motel in the 1700 block of North Carson Street for a welfare check on a possible drug-endangered child. The reporting party stated the woman residing in the room with her 4-year-old son was using drugs.

Deputies knocked on the room door and the woman answered. Deputies could see the room was in disarray with clothing and food on the floor and bed, multiple balloons common in heroin packaging and a “tooter” straw, commonly used for inhaling drugs, on the dresser. Also observed was a male, Saucedo, in the bathroom who was crouched over the toilet, the arrest report states.

Deputies spoke with the woman and was asked about the child. She said she gave the child ice cream and a drink and that he was out for a walk and that a woman was with him. During the conversation it appeared the suspect was on drugs and appeared more interested in who called the police than the welfare of her child.

She was asked about the drug paraphernalia in the motel room. She insisted it was for smoking marijauna. She was again asked about her son, which she said she didn’t know which room her son was in, or the phone number of the person taking care of him. She stated the child had been gone for 25 minutes, the arrest report states.

Deputies applied for and received a search warrant though a judge and the assistance of a deputy district attorney. The room was searched and officers located two drug baggies of suspected methamphetamine floating in the toilet. Based on Saucedo’s presence in the bathroom and the contents of the toilet it appeared that Saucedo attempted to flush the methamphetamine. Deputies also found a jar containing 1.2 grams of methamphetamine, hypodermic needles and several balloons consistent with heroin packaging, all within the reaches of a child, the arrest report states.

The child was located with a woman, who was walking with him at the motel. A social worker responded and took custody of the child, clothing and toys where were found to be intermixed with drugs and paraphernalia inside the room. Bail for Wirowek: $8,637. Bail for Saucedo: $6,000.
