The Arlington Square Ice Rink is temporarily closed due to some storm damage sustained over the weekend, but the great people of the Parks and Recreation Department are working hard to have it up and running soon. Enjoy an evening with the girls at Bella Fiore tonight. A Sip and Shop event featuring local vendors begins at 5 p.m. If you’re interested in the theater, consider attending the board meeting for the Proscenium Players tonight.

The pottery studio, learning center and gallery cut the ribbon Saturday at 1308 South Carson Street inside the Carson Mall.

If you’d rather be indoors, the Carson Mall is hosting a Holiday Craft Fair, and at noon will celebrate the grand opening of Ogres-Holm Pottery. Celebrate a Country Christmas with Mary Kaye and the Kaye Sisters in Genoa or get your Celtic fix at the Brewery Art Center with a performance by County Clarke. Wild Horse Children’s Theater heads into their second weekend of performances, so you’re running out of time to catch Elf Jr. – The Musical. Sassafras will show you a good time tonight: Whatitdo hits the stage at 8 p.m. Local favorite, Antsy McClain, brings a whole trailer park full of fun to his Christmas show at the Brewery Arts Center.

The Carson City couple learned to throw clay four years ago through a local studio, and now are ready to pass on what they've learned by opening their own pottery studio inside the Carson Mall.
Dream Center serves up Christmas dinner, caring in Carson City

Please give yourself extra time to get where you’re going, the roads may be slick. The weekend is quickly approaching bringing fun events like the State Railroad Museum’s Santa Train, a special performance by Antsy McClain at the Brewery Arts Center, and the return of the drive-through Living Nativity at the United Methodist Church. If you’re itching for the chance to get your picture with Santa, head to Red’s Old 395 tonight. Stretch your vocal cords with karaoke at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar or at Living the Good Life.
Wednesday, Dec. 7: Things to do in Carson City
Submitted by Danielle Cook on Tue, 12/06/2016 - 9:58pm75 years ago, the USS Nevada was one of the battleships trapped when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. She was the only battleship to get underway during the attack, and according to Naval historian Kermit (Kit) H. Bonner the ship was "the only bright spot in an otherwise dismal and depressing morning" for the United States. Today we remember those lost in that attack, and remember the history behind the battleship that is our battle born namesake. A special exhibit of USS Nevada artifacts, and a lecture on her history are free for all at the State Museum at 1 p.m.

Watch ‘A Christmas Wish’ with Jimmy Durante at the monthly meeting of the Carson City Classic Cinema Club. Let the talented kids of ‘Strings in the Schools’ entertain you with their annual ‘This is Not a Christmas Concert’ Concert at the Community Center. If you need some bowl-full-of-jelly belly laughs, then the Super Santa Extravaganza, featuring some of the area’s funniest stand-up comics, is for you. You’ll find that in the Brewery Arts Center Black Box Theater. For a good dose of Christmas lights, head to the Johnson Lane area. Off Stephanie Lane, on Chaparral Court, is a spectacular display known as Nevada Christmas.

Head to your favorite tavern and toast to the repeal of alcohol prohibition, or head to Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar for their Repeal Day Party. Kids can enjoy hot chocolate and a couple hours of skating after school for the special price of $5, and that includes skate rental. Firkin and Fox is the Monday night place to be with karaoke following tonight’s football game.

Let Firehouse Subs take care of dinner tonight, and do something for our local Relay for Life in the process. We are in for some wet weather over the next few days, so please slow down and watch for slick roads.

In just a few days’ time, a feast of family, friends, gratitude, and turkey will be served up. While we’re waiting, go check out the vendors at the Carson Mall and get a jump on some of your holiday shopping. The art exhibits around town are always a nice way to spend a few hours. Monday Night Football sees the Raiders battle the Texans; grab some friends and place your bets. Learn a few tricks in the kitchen with the Healthy Communities Coalition: their free monthly cooking class is open to everyone.

Kids will enjoy the Tales and Wags program at the Library where they get to read to therapy dogs and acquire a new book in the process. It’s a Carson/Douglas Army/Navy rivalry as the JROTC programs hit the field at Carson High for a game of flag football. Keep reading and you’re sure to find something that sounds fun.

Friday, Nov. 18: Things to do in Carson City

The annual Salvation Army Turkey Drive runs 6 a.m. until six this evening: drop off your donation at the Max Casino in Carson or at the C.O.D. Casino in Minden. Get to know Supervisor Karen Abowd during her monthly walkabout at the Community Center; head inside to get a peek at the new art exhibit in the Sierra Room while you’re there. The Craft Fair at Carson High School is a local favorite: over 125 vendors, music, and pictures with Santa. It starts tonight and continues tomorrow.
Annual Carson High Holiday Craft Fair Friday and Saturday, Nov. 18-19
Submitted by Danielle Cook on Tue, 11/15/2016 - 1:32pmCarson High School will be hosting its annual Holiday Craft Fair this weekend, Friday, Nov. 18 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Admission is free for children and K-12 students. Adults, admission is Friday $2 and allows re-entry on Saturday; Saturday's admission is $1.50, with a discount if you bring something non-perishable for their food drive.
Special Holiday Craft Fair in Virginia City this weekend to feature special Kids’ Zone
Submitted by editor on Mon, 11/14/2016 - 12:44pmA special family-oriented craft fair will be held this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 19-20, at historic Piper’s Opera House, 12 North B St., Virginia City.
The event will feature local handmade crafts, a raffle and silent auction, as well as a DJ with holiday music, and a snack bar featuring hot dogs, chips, cookies, soda, water and juice. Admission to the craft fair is free.
