The fire was caused by heavy equipment working on a new home under construction, according to a joint news release from Douglas County, East Fork Fire Protection District and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

UPDATE 5:23PM: As of 5 p.m., forward progress has stopped on the James Fire, fire officials tell KRNV.

UPDATE 4:43PM: From Douglas County Sheriff's Office via Twitter: Firefighters are making good progress on the James Fire to the north and east side flanks with two helicopters dropping water and 1 fixed wing air tanker dropping retardant. Firefighters continue battling active fire on the west side. Two hand crews have arrived and more coming.

UPDATE 413PM: In a fire that exploded fast threatening homes in the James Canyon area north of Genoa, firefighters have been able to save up to 30 structures thus far that are threatened by the James Fire that started Monday afternoon. Two helicopters, 1 air tanker and more than 100 firefighters continue to battle the blaze. There's no word yet on containment but Douglas County officials say the fire remains at around 50 acres as of 4 p.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
