Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space will host its first ever volunteer post Nevada Day Clean-Up on Oct. 28, 2018 from 8 to 10 a.m. The department will provide all of the trash bags and gloves necessary for the clean up.

Tahoe Forest Stewardship Day Fall

Volunteers of all ages and skill levels are invited to this fun, hands-on restoration day. By pitching in, you are improving the watershed habitats that surround Lake Tahoe. Healthy forests act as natural pollution filters to Keep Tahoe Blue.

What to wear and bring: sturdy boots, clothes that are comfortable and can get dirty and sunglasses. Bring a reusable water bottle and leather work gloves if you have them.

No longer are students allowed to possess their earbuds at school let alone use them during breaks or at lunch time. Accessing cell-phones during class may also result in confiscation, delivery to the office, and a call home to have the parent or guardian come and personally pick it up from the office.

Carson City Health: Human case of West Nile virus reported in Lyon County

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Thursday the first human case of West Nile virus in Lyon County for 2018.

The Disease Control and Prevention Division at CCHHS oversees disease surveillance and investigations in Lyon County and is the agency monitoring the situation. The individual confirmed to have West Nile virus was diagnosed with the less severe form of the illness. The exposure to WNV through mosquito bites occurred out of state.
