CARSON CITY — Gabe Crossman, a 17-year-old senior at Carson High School and member of Troop 45, will be refreshing the “C" on C-Hill for his Eagle Scout and senior class projects Saturday, September 7, at 7 a.m. Seniors from the Class of 2019 moved the rocks to form “TJ3" in memory of their classmate Timmy Jones.

Stop by the east side of Mills Park today, August 25, take a ride the Carson City and Mills Park Railroad, and then visit the Wungnema House for the Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation’s monthly open house, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. There is no admission fee for the open house, and all are welcome.

Carson High School Principal Gavin Ward stood at the north entrance high-fiving students as they entered high school, some of them for the first time. In fact, counselors, teachers, and other administrators stood at each of the school entrances welcoming students to the best high school in the state, hyperbole aside.

The next Carson City School Board Meeting will be held Tuesday, Aug. 27 in the Sierra Room of the Community Center located at 851 E. William Street beginning at 7 p.m.

Having made it through the first day of school in Carson City, it is onward and upward as we head into Tuesday, August 20, 2019. Events around the area include fitness hikes and bike ride, a free floral design class at Silver City School House, art showings and Congressman Mark Amodei at Casino Fandango. Also featured is the launch of the Jukebox International Film Festival at the community center, a jazz quintet performance at Comma Courtyard and the 115th birthday celebration of Count Basie as part of the Jazz and Beyond music festival. Louis and Peggy Locke, Founding Pastors of Fountainhead Foursquare Church in Carson City, Nevada, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on May 25th. Peggy also serves as Staff Chaplain for Carson Tahoe Health in Carson City. The Lockes took a ‘land and sea’ cruise of Alaska in July and continue to celebrate their special event by camping and being together with their family. Louis and Peggy have 4 sons, 9 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.

A Carson City-based nonprofit that teaches the English language to those preparing for U.S. citizenship — and whose founder was recognized in December 2018 as a finalist for the CNN Hero Award — has been picked to receive a national recognition award from the prestigious Manhattan Institute.

On Saturday, 10 children from low-income Carson City families will receive back-to-school makeovers as part of the "Cool School Renewal" event put on by Capital City CIRCLES Initiative.

UPDATE: There's a star party late Monday night into Tuesday morning hosted by Carson City Parks and Recreation and Open Space. For summer’s most visible meteor showers, join the Carson City Parks, Rec and Open Space Department at Western Nevada College’s Jack C. Davis Observatory for some late night, educational fun. No pre-registration necessary. Please wear close-toed shoes and bring water for night hiking from the Observatory. Head lamps and flashlights are allowed. Heading into Monday, July 29, 2019 and we're wondering how the month went by so quickly. Again we're looking at a fairly typical end of July day weather wise, with sunny skies and a high around 94. On tap around Carson City are athletic, art and speaking events, a life guard camp, a computer coding camp, line dancing lessons and more. Enjoy.

The community is invited to a free gospel concert Friday in Carson City featuring the Blackwood Quartet. This group has a legendary story and it comes through in every song.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events around the Carson City region over the next three days, including the Carson City Fair, Karson Kruzers Run What Cha Brung car show, a fundraiser bike ride, cooking classes, tours at the Nevada State Museum, train rides on Saturday and much more!

Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church in Carson City donated proceeds raised from community rummage sale to Carson City Search and Rescue to support the replacement of an aging search and rescue vehicle. A generous donation in the amount of $3,147.25 was presented on July 24, which will join funds already raised for the vehicle purchase.
