Care Flight called after vehicle crash at College Parkway and Northgate
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sun, 03/30/2014 - 9:19amCarson City Fire Department emergency responders ordered two Care Flight helicopters Sunday morning after a two vehicle crash at College Parkway and Northgate. One of two people injured was reported to be pregnant.
The crash was reported at 10:06 a.m. Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies are re-routing traffic around the accident scene. College Parkway has been shut down at Carson Street.
The condition of the two injured is unknown at this time. Both will be flown to the trauma unit of Renown Medical Center in Reno.

The Western Nevada College sophomore was protecting a one-run lead against College of Southern Idaho with the potential tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position with two outs in the top of the seventh inning.
With a base open, Greer instead focused on cleanup hitter R.J. Bush, retiring him looking at a third-strike curveball.
WNC Baseball: Fife, Harber help Wildcats gain doubleheader split
Submitted by editor on Fri, 03/28/2014 - 9:48pmThrough 13 innings of a Scenic West Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader on Friday, College of Southern Idaho denied Western Nevada College from putting a crooked number on the scoreboard. But with one swing by Alex Fife that changed as his homer brought in three runs, helping the Wildcats to a doubleheader split.
Fife’s homer was part of a four-run seventh inning that snapped a 1-1 tie and propelled the Wildcats to a 5-1 victory at John L. Harvey Field in Carson CIty. The Golden Eagles won the opener 6-2 behind the pitching of southpaw Kolton Brost.
Lyon County authorities investigate man struck and killed by train in Fernley
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 03/28/2014 - 5:47pmThe Lyon County Sheriff's Office is investigating a male who was killed after being struck by a train Friday afternoon near Pilot Travel Center in Fernley.
At around 2:45 p.m., Lyon County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the area for a report of a man who had been struck by a train, said Lyon County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Jeremy Grundy. The person was found dead near the tracks.
Youth Theatre Carson City Production of Guys and Dolls, Jr. continues through weekend

Passenger in Saturday's Carson City motorcycle crash at Roop and Fairview dies
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 03/27/2014 - 10:05amThe South Lake Tahoe passenger of a motorcycle that crashed Saturday in Carson City has died, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
Audrey G. Rugamas, 21, died of injuries after she was taken off of life support on Wednesday. Rugamas had received severe injuries sustained from the motorcycle crash with a vehicle, said NHP Trooper Dave Gibson.
Agencies, counties and employers continue to push job hiring in the region

A weeklong job quest campaign in Carson City received 1,047 job openings in a variety of industries from entry level to executive level jobs, well above the goal of 500 job openings set by the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation, said DETR Director Frank Woodbeck.

They are Andrey L. Gallegos, 20, of Sparks, who was the driver of the motorcycle and passenger Audrey G. Rugamas, 21, of South Lake Tahoe, said NHP Trooper Dave Gibson. The two are reported to be critically injured and on life support.
Fights, foot chases and felony drug arrests keep Carson City deputies busy over weekend
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 03/24/2014 - 10:01amA 19-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after a chase through a field near Highway 50 and Fairview Drive.
Hector Cervantes is being held in Carson City Jail without bail on a parole violation charge and $10,428 bail for other charges.
According to the arrest report, Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies responded at 12:31 a.m. to the 2800 block of Century Drive where there had been several people outside a home yelling and screaming. It turned out to be a large house party where several underage people were drinking.

Two people remain critically injured after a motorcycle crash Saturday night in Carson City, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
The names of the victims have not been released but the passenger of the unregistered green 2007 Suzuki motorcycle is a 21-year-old South Lake Tahoe woman and the driver, 20, had Nebraska identification, said NHP Trooper Dan Lopez. They were flown separately to Renown Medical Center in Reno.

The Interim County Manager will serve over the next several months during the recruitment process for a new County Manager.
The Board discussed several options for interim management at its meeting at Lake Tahoe on Thursday, March 20, 2014, including appointment of qualified individuals from within and outside the organization.

Carson City hit again overnight by vandals; restaurant, business and vehicles targeted

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said the incident happened sometime over night with reports of vandalism continuing to come in this morning. The vandals appear to be targeting business and vehicles randomly, said Furlong.

Seventh-Ranked College of Southern Nevada Holds Off Wildcats

Freshman pitcher Katilyn Covione blanked the Coyotes for four innings, and the Wildcats had the tying and possible winning runs in scoring positions in the final inning before CSN nailed down a 3-2 Scenic West Athletic Conference victory.
The Coyotes started their Saturday sweep with a five-inning 11-2 victory.

Two dramatic walk-off victories gave the Wildcats a momentum boost that inspired them to workmanlike 17-2 and 7-5 nonconference wins over Mount Hood Community College of Gresham, Ore., on Saturday in Carson City.
The four-game sweep improved WNC’s overall record to 19-9 and righted the club after splitting four games the previous weekend at Colorado Northwestern.
Care Flight, Carson City Fire Department called to Prison Hill after man falls 30 feet

The man was reported to have a head injury, was bleeding from a laceration, was conscious and awake but not alert.
