Carson City Fire Department responds to two separate vehicle rollovers overnight

One person was taken by Care Flight in a crash that happened early Thursday morning, while the other person escaped serious injury. Both rollovers may have been alcohol related.
The Thursday morning rollover was in the southbound lane of the Carson City I-580 freeway near the Highway 50 exit.

Huskies rollover Carson City Senators in the first round of playoffs
Submitted by Kyle Kunz on Tue, 05/13/2014 - 8:05pmIt was the opening round of playoff action Tuesday for the Carson High Senators up against the Reno Huskies. Reno came in as the heavy favorite with an impressive 21-1 record versus Carson’s 10-12 record.
Things took a slow start for the Carson City offense going one, two, and three to start the game. Reno, however, took no time warming up after scoring two runs in the bottom of the first after a couple of base hits, a wild pitch and an error by Carson’s center fielder TJ Thomson.

Western Nevada College to give 581 degrees and certificates at May 19-20 commencements

Graduation ceremonies are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, May 19, in Carson City at the Pony Express Pavilion, 1111 E. William St. and on Tuesday, May 20, 7 p.m., in Fallon at the Barkley Theatre at Oaks Park Art Center, 151 Park St.

More than 2,200 degrees to be awarded at UNR during Friday and Saturday commencements

There will be three ceremonies, one for advanced-degree recipients Friday afternoon, May 16, and two for bachelor-degree recipients on the mornings of Friday, May 16 and Saturday, May 17. All three ceremonies will be held on the University’s historic Quadrangle, located on the southern part of campus.

Engineering concepts explored with putters and Wednesday lecture at Carson City Library

Dayton Historical Society hosts 'Discover Gold in Nevada, Again' a Living History Event, Saturday

It is the location of Nevada’s first gold discovery which took place in 1849. It was the Silver State’s first permanent settlement, founded in 1851 and is the site of Lyon County’s first courthouse, opened in 1864. It is also the site of Nevada’s first marriage and ironically, the first divorce, as well, Docent Lauri Emerich, said. “We have a lot to celebrate.”
Carson City deputies arrest man on weapon and drug charges after shooting near hikers
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 05/12/2014 - 8:09amA 26-year-old man was arrested Saturday on felony drug and firearm charges after he allegedly fired several rounds from a handgun near hiking trails, according to the Carson City Sheriff's Office.
Jesse Jonathan Sillis-Teran, 26, of Carson City is being held on $27,911 bail. According to the arrest report, officers were dispatched to the area of Silver Saddle Road and Carson River Road for a report of shots fired in the area.
Plans for Carson City Jazz and Beyond Music Festival underway
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 05/12/2014 - 6:21amGet ready for an exciting summer of music when the Jazz and Beyond Carson City Music Festival takes place, August 1-17. The festival, which began in 2004, is presented by the Mile High Jazz Band Assoc.
Last year, the Jazz and Beyond Festival featured 60 performances and over 100 performers, and organizers hope to match that accomplishment this year. Most performances are presented free to the public. Beyond jazz, the festival included bluegrass, blues, mariachi, and more.
Anti-bullying campaign founder says issue is epidemic that requires community solutions

It's a problem that affects communities, families and schools. Tackling the issue takes a commitment from parents, teachers, law enforcement, elected officials and children themselves. That was the message delivered Saturday at workshop in Carson City presented by the founding members of the national nonprofit group Teach Anti-Bullying, Inc.

Historic McKeen Car to run this weekend at Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City
Submitted by editor on Fri, 05/09/2014 - 11:03amThe Nevada State Railroad Museum’s historical 1910 McKeen motor car, a National Historic Landmark, will carry passengers from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the museum, 2180 S. Carson St. in Carson City.
The McKeen motor car will operate for only four days in 2014; two of those days are this weekend. The event celebrates National Train Day, which is May 10.
This weekend, the McKeen will run every 30 minutes between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Rides are $8, $4 kids ages 4-11; free for children younger than 4.
Carson edges out Douglas 4-3 on senior night

The festivities took place before the game, which highlighted all of the seniors. This year’s class of 2014 ball players include: Dustin Dutcher, Dominic Norton, Chase Blueberg, Todd Thomsen, Jace Zampirro, Gehrig Tucker, and Charles Nystrom.
The rivalry was real in this one, with the umpire talking to both benches multiple times and even an ejection of one of the coaches.
Carson loses 7-2 on senior night

WNC Softball: North Idaho Overcomes Fast-Starting Wildcats

The Wildcats scored four first-inning runs, but the Cardinals rallied behind Hayden Fields’ five RBI for a 10-6 victory on the opening day of the double-elimination tournament. WNC of Carson City (12-45) will meet Colorado Northwestern Community College (8-46) in an elimination game at 8:30 a.m. Thursday.

Douglas County authorities are looking for a Lake Tahoe area man who has been reported missing.
Donald Morris Jr., 55, who lives in the Round Hill subdivision of Zephyr Cove, was last seen April 20, 2014 by his landlord, said Douglas County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Pat Brooks.

The three discuss the Nevada Margins Tax Initiative and its predicted impacts on business, education and future economic growth.
The issue will be Question 3 in Nevada's November general-election ballot. If it is approved by a majority of voters, the tax would impose a 2 percent tax on a business' margins after allowable deductions are taken. Only businesses that gross $1 million annually or more will be subject to the tax.
