Carson loses 7-2 on senior night
The rivalry was intense today on the softball diamond today as Carson squared off against Douglas earlier in the afternoon at Carson. The importance of the home game for the Senators was that it was their Senior Night.
Carson showcased their defensive abilities early in the top of the first as they rolled a double play after a base hit to left. The play was immediately followed by a routine ground ball to third to get the game rolling at 0-0 after the top of one. The Senators didn't do too much offensively either going 1, 2, 3 in bottom of one. Douglas quickly followed suit with a pop out to left and a couple of strikeouts leaving the score 0-0 entering the bottom of the second.
Finally things would start to pick up in the bottom of two with Aubrey Northrup getting hit by a pitch. Malia Tiffer would make her presence known with a towering double right over centerfield's head. Next up to bat was Becka Breuer who managed to knock a single to score both Northrup and Tiffer. After a fielder's choice to second to get out number two, and a line drive to shortstop would finally put the inning to an end.
Douglas was looking to partake in the action as well and did so starting the inning off with a double to deep left, followed by a miss handled ball on a bunt would leave runners on first and third, threatening to score. Their time would come after a ball thrown into left field by catcher Jen Purcell which scored the runner from third and progressed the other runner to second. After another double into right center which would score one, Douglas would immediately follow up with a single right up the middle to score yet another run.
Carson wouldn't do much offensively putting up a single but not doing much with it. Douglas would do just the same with a single and also wouldn't do anything with it. Carson couldn't pick things up in the bottom half of four, leaving the score still 3-2 Douglas in the top of 5.
Before the top of five, Carson announced their seniors of the year. The senior roster (and from left to right in the photo above) included Kandis Tuttle, Jenifer Purcell, Aubrey Northrup, Malia Tiffer, Rebecka Breuer, Kaitlyn Jimmy, Skye Simpson, and finally Madison Von Duering.
Douglas spent no time getting warmed up again after the senior festivities with three back to back singles to load the bases immediately followed by a two RBI double. With runners on second and third, yet another single up the right side would score another two tigers. Finally the scoring would stop with a pop out to third. The score after and explosive half inning by the tigers was 7-2. The senators wouldn't respond going 1, 2, 3 in the bottom of six.
Nothing too exciting would pick up for the tigers either, getting two hits with no runs. Following the trend, the senators would take a single up the left side, but couldn't do anything with it leaving her stranded on first.
Douglas would pick things up in the top of 7 with a couple of singles, but with some good defense they were held to no runs. The run deficit would prove too much for Carson who went 1, 2, 3 to finish out the game. Carson loses on their senior night to Douglas 7-2.
