This year, the United States celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Beatles' first visit to these shores. The "Jazz & Beyond: Carson City Music Festival" is excited to provide two exciting Beatles events in honor of that occasion.

A railroad mystery, Nevada history, a dog and a ghost are the central figures in a new book by author Jan Pierson, set to visit the Nevada State Railroad Museum, Carson City, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 9 and 10. The author will sign copies of her book “Ghost Girl in Car No. 9,” the fifth in her series “The Ghostowners,” in the museum store.

The Dayton Valley Days Committee invites crafters, vendors and anyone who wants to reach a large number of people to reserve booth space for the 26th annual street festival held in the heart of historic Old Town Dayton.
Dayton Valley Days is scheduled Sept. 20 and 21 with an expected attendance over 15,000.

I was not the first to share the news of the Hyatt Hotel project; as it was already alluded to by the Northern Nevada Development Association on its website. In addition to numerous rumors that ran rampant throughout the community.

The Jazz and Beyond Festival, Aug. 1-17 in Carson City, embraces numerous artists and highlights various venues in and around the Capital City and includes such genres as: Bluegrass, Blues, Middle-Eastern music and much more.

The styles of musical interpretations are as unique as the settings — offering exciting experience for all to enjoy. Last year, the festival featured 60 performances and over 100 performers. Event Promoters expect to once again exceed the expectations of attendees with an amazing lineup.

Carson City fire and ambulance were called this afternoon to a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the 400 block of North Carson Street.

The victim was taken by Care Flight to the trauma ward of Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno.

The accident was reported to Carson City dispatch at 2:26 p.m. Carson City sheriff's deputies were redirecting traffic around the accident scene.

Care Flight landed behind a nearby casino parking lot at Robinson Street. No other details were available on the victim.

UPDATE: Thursday at 11 a.m., the Wells Fargo coach will be delivering Governor Brian Sandoval, Carson City Mayor Robert Crowell and Wells Fargo Regional Manager Chad Osorno and Wells Fargo Northern Nevada Area Manager Sean French to Fuji Park in south Carson City to preside over the official opening and ribbon cutting of Carson City’s contribution to the NV150 Anniversary event, the NV150Fair.

The NV150Fair will feature over 90 4-H and Future Farmers of America kids from around the region showcasing their animals and farm knowledge.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a series of commercial burglaries. Since January of this year Carson City has experienced 27 burglaries at local businesses, said Carson City Sheriff's Office Detective David LeGros.

During these burglaries cash, guns and electronics have been stolen from businesses in areas throughout town and resulting damage done from the break-ins.

The majority of the burglaries have occurred in the east portion of Carson City in the area of Fairview Drive, Desatoya Drive and Butti Way.

The Comstock History Center presents “One Is Silver, the Other Is Gold: Celebrating 25 Years of Nevada Folklife Apprenticeships” featuring 22 visual artists who have received grant support from the Nevada Arts Council as master or apprentice artists in a variety of folk traditions.

Each recognized master is encouraged to work with one or more dedicated apprentices so that their traditional art forms and personal contributions endure.

The Carson City Library has joined the Salvation Army’s Carson City Corps Community Center in preparing students for the upcoming school year. The Back-To-School supply drive will run through August 11. A collection barrel and Apple Tree Poster is located at the library’s main Help Desk.

The 2014 Jazz and Beyond - Carson City Music Festival will open Friday, August 1 with a "Mad Hatter Garden Party" featuring music by the Corky Bennett Trio in the backyard of the Nevada Governor's Mansion.

The ticketed party features music, finger foods by Carson City Confections, wine, beer, and a raffle. Festivities run from 5 to 7:30 p.m.

UPDATE: Carson City firefighters responded this afternoon to a 50-year-old woman struck by a vehicle in the area of Stewart and Washington streets. The woman had injuries to her leg, arm and hip areas. She was taken by Care Flight to the trauma ward at Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno.

Emergency crews treating her at the scene said she was conscious and alert. The accident happened at around 3:20 p.m.

For the first time in its history, The Nevada Chapter of the National Hemophilia Foundation will host two Hemophilia Walks on the same day to help raise critical funds and awareness for those Nevadans affected by inherited bleeding and clotting disorders including Hemophilia and von Willebrand disease.

This will be the first ever Hemophilia Walk held in Reno.

Tom May and Chris Kennedy are scheduled to perform in Carson City, NV at The Brewery Arts Center performance hall, 511 West King St., Friday, July 25 at 7:30P p.m.

Youth Theatre Carson City is thrilled to announce our upcoming production of SEUSSICAL, JR., an exciting adventure through the world of Dr. Seuss. The show will run two weekends, July 25 – August 3, 2014 in the Bob Boldrick Theatre at the Carson City Community Center. SEUSSICAL, JR. is great fun for the whole family. Lightning strikes, heavy rain and flash flooding are being reported this afternoon around Carson City and Douglas County. The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for west central Carson City and northwest Douglas County until 5:30 p.m.

Firefighters were able to fully contain the Clear Creek fire by 7 p.m. Friday night, according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center.

There will be a Type 4 Incident Comander, 2 crews and an engine working and monitoring the Clear Creek fire today. The 187-acre fire on the south side of Highway 50 west, is believed to have started by a lightning strike on Wednesday.

Fire officials downsized the Clear Creek fire to 187 acres, with 75 percent now contained and full containment estimated by 5 p.m. Saturday, according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center.

The fire, on the south side of Highway 50 west, is believed to have started by a lightning strike on Wednesday. Today crews plan to hold the perimeter and complete line construction around the fire.
