Downtown Carson City street design concepts presented today open house
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 09/05/2014 - 7:49amCarson City will present concepts for improvements to downtown Carson Street at a public open house on Tuesday, Sept. 16, at noon and 5:30 p.m. in the Community Center Sierra Room.
The concepts will be available for public review and staff will be available to answer questions and take public comments from 12 to 1:30 p.m. and 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Plans for downtown include wider sidewalks and enhanced landscaping. The plans will implement the vision for downtown that was adopted with the City’s Master Plan in 2006.
Nevada wins competition for Tesla Motors gigafactory

“The gigafactory is an important step in advancing the cause of sustainable transportation and will enable the mass production of compelling electric vehicles for decades to come,” said CEO of Tesla Motors Elon Musk.

Tesla has been in negotiation for months with four other states including California, Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico. CEO Elon Musk announced in spring that two sites would start to be constructed before a final winner was declared.
In July, Tesla broke ground at the Reno Tahoe Industrial Center, but the company did not publicly commit to building in Nevada. The Silver State ultimately won the battle for the major economic development.

Nevada Artists Association 'Photography Show' at BAC through October, reception Saturday

A reception will be held for the photographers, painters and artists Saturday Sept. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. The public is invited to view the exhibit, meet the artists and partake of libations and refreshments. Report claims Tesla has chosen Nevada for battery factory
Submitted by admin on Wed, 09/03/2014 - 12:51pmCNBC is reporting that Tesla has chosen Nevada as the site for the company's $5 billion lithium-ion battery plant, quoting a source inside Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval's office.
The report says the governor will hold a news conference on Thursday in Carson City, Nevada to make a "major economic development announcement."
It had been previously revealed that ground work had been completed in the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center to make way for the factory, that could bring as many as 5,000 jobs to the state.

Care Flight called after crash involving a scooter on Highway 50 and North Lompa Lane
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 09/02/2014 - 4:50pmCare Flight was called tonight after a crash involving a scooter and possibly one other vehicle near Highway 50 and North Lompa Lane. Carson City fire department, the sheriff's office and the Nevada Highway Patrol were also called to scene.
The female scooter rider was hurt, possibly with leg and arm injuries. The call came into dispatch at 5:40 p.m.
Traffic was diverted around the accident scene. She was flown to the trauma ward at Renown Medical Center in Reno.
Reno Philharmonic seeks video submissions for 'Home Means Nevada' concert set

The Reno Philharmonic is now seeking video submissions of “Home Means Nevada” performances from schools and music groups across the state to include as part of a video montage of submitted performances during the concert.

Dayton woman identified in Saturday crash on Highway 50 in Carson City
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 09/01/2014 - 8:55amThe Nevada Highway Patrol has identified a Dayton woman as the passenger killed in a single vehicle accident Saturday morning in Carson City in the area of Highway 50 and East Nye Lane.
Leatrice Drew, 82, died from injuries at the scene in the rollover accident, reported at around 8:55 a.m. Her husband, Daniel Drew, was also injured. It is unknown if the couple were wearing seat belts properly, said NHP Trooper Dave Gibson.

They perform several concerts each year and have sung throughout the area. They sing regularly with the Carson City Symphony and have performed in several concerts with the Reno Philharmonic Chorus and Orchestra.

NHP: Elderly woman dies in rollover on Highway 50 and East Nye Lane

The driver of the vehicle, an adult man, was taken to the hospital with injuries. His condition is unknown at this time.

A Carson City firefighters have responded to an accident near the intersection of Highway 50 East and Nye Lane, where a small white SUV hit a drainage ditch and flipped several times.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and several local ministries will be on hand to share the work that is being done in our community. This is the third Engage event in Carson City and momentum has continued to grow with each event.
Man jailed on suspicion of driving under the influence of marijuana
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 08/29/2014 - 8:31amAn 18-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday, 9:55 a.m. in the 1600 block of East Fifth Street on five misdemeanor charges, including driving under the influence of marijuana, following a traffic stop, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
According to the arrest report, an officer stopped the man for failing to maintain a lane of travel westbound on Fifth Street from the roundabout. During the traffic stop the officer detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

The 1905 Steam Locomotive No. 25 highlights the Labor Day weekend celebration at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City. The historic Virginia and Truckee train will carry passengers on 30-minute trips departing every 45 minutes from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday through Monday, Aug. 30 through Sept. 1.
The museum’s Jacobsen Interpretive Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Carson City deputies arrest three on felony charges
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 08/28/2014 - 9:30amTwo men with gang ties were arrested Wednesday in the 2700 block of Menlo Drive by the Tri-County Gang Unit. One of the men was wanted on a felony fugitive from justice warrant out of California, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Oswaldo Torres, 28, is being held without bail awaiting extradition on the California Department of Corrections warrant issued June 2, 2014. The other man, 29, faces misdemeanor warrant related charges.
