SOS, Save Our Sassafras
Something amazing is happening in our Carson City! Once again our community is rising up to help a neighbor in need.
As many of you may have heard a favorite, downtown restaurant, Sassafras is being forced to relocate.
The word spread throughout our community and one question was being asked “how can we help”
I had a chance to attend a meeting of volunteers from the community to help organize a benefit to help save our Sassafras. I then asked Owner, Scott Owen Doerr, what he wanted people to know?
This is what he had to say.
“The outpouring of support from the residents of Carson City and beyond, following the announcement of our imminent eviction, has been tremendous. Hundreds of guests and artists have asked us how they could help us improve our current and future circumstances. Having been positioned in an extremely challenging situation, the Sassafras community, has organized their efforts to craft a fantastic event in our honor. SOS (Save our Sass) a fundraising festival, will be held on Saturday, August 9th at the Brewery Arts Center.
This event will feature many of the area's top musicians and artists coming together for a common cause. The funds raised from this gathering will help us address many different issues that will unquestionably occur following the demise of our existing restaurant and entertainment venue. Paying our employees, vendors, and government remain our top priority. The costs of relocating a business enterprise the size of Sassafras and our Plan:b micro lounge and working to recreate the cultural communal outlet that defines us, is undeniably a daunting tasks. Like our food, we are an eclectic mix of dedicated artisans, who want to continue our journey down life's creative path. We believe, with the help of our accepting and supportive community, we will overcome the challenges that lie ahead. We are forever grateful for your unwavering support of our vision.” Scott Doerr Owner/Operator
