The traveling exhibit, Always Lost: A Meditation on War, will be leaving the Legislature building after Wednesday. Spring has Sprung at the Nevada Artist’s Association Gallery at the Brewery Arts Center. Thanks to the Capital City Arts Initiative, art now adorns the Sierra Room in the Community Center: the first exhibit is titled Tuscarora. Think about how art can enhance downtown if you attend the public input sessions regarding the upcoming downtown rejuvenation project.

WNC Softball: Wildcats level home field with sweep against Colorado Northwestern

WNC completed a four-game Scenic West Athletic Conference softball sweep of Colorado Northwestern on Saturday at Edmonds Sports Complex in Carson City.
The Wildcats backed the six-hit pitching of Kristina George by lining a homer and five doubles in a 6-3 opening-game victory, then Gabriella Canibeyaz delivered two hits and two RBI in a 7-3 second-game victory.

Assemblyman PK O’Neill partners with WNC Foundation to raise funds for Always Lost Exhibit
Submitted by editor on Fri, 04/17/2015 - 8:26amNevada Assemblyman PK O’Neill, District 40, has partnered with Western Nevada College Foundation in an effort to raise funds to continue the Always Lost: A Meditation on War exhibit’s national tour and ongoing maintenance.
Created in 2008 by Western Nevada College faculty and students as a class project to memorialize the costs of war, the exhibit most notably includes the Wall of the Dead comprised of photos and names of the U.S. service members that have fallen during the Afghanistan and Iraq wars since Sept. 11, 2001.

Agriculture is a huge part of what makes this state great. The program is geared toward school-children, but is open to the public today and tomorrow if you want to learn more about ranching and farming in our region.

Tahoe 'Take Care' campaign aims to reduce human, pet impacts to lake environment

Wednesday, the Lake Tahoe Outreach Committee unveiled the Take Care campaign to help reduce these impacts and promote a more responsible use of our great outdoors.
The campaign was designed for use in outreach efforts by public agencies, private businesses and nonprofit organizations in the region. Aimed at residents and visitors, the campaign is a series of reminders that poke fun at the mistakes we all make when we’re not paying attention.

Highway 50 center turn lane improvement project in Dayton begins
Submitted by editor on Wed, 04/15/2015 - 9:00amA Nevada Department of Transportation project has begun this week to enhance traffic safety with raised center turn lane islands and other enhancements near the Smith’s Shopping Center in Dayton.
The approximately $300,000 contract, awarded to Sierra Nevada Construction, will install raised turn islands in the median of U.S. 50 at three shopping center entrances: Retail Road, Pinecone Road and the main entrance to the Smith’s shopping center.

Douglas dispatch is second in Nevada to achieve Emergency Medical Dispatch accreditation

The International Academy is the world’s largest leading standard-setting and certification body for emergency dispatch.
Douglas County 9-1-1 is the first all-risk center in the State of Nevada to achieve accreditation for medical dispatch. The IAED only recognizes the best of the best in the accreditation process. This accreditation means the center adheres to set policies and procedures and quality assurance protocols.

Supervisors look to fill four spots on Shade Tree Council

The Shade Tree Council provides advice to the Board of Supervisors on matters concerning the development, maintenance, management and promotion of a safe, healthy and attractive urban forest in Carson City.
Carson City 911 dispatchers recognized this week as the unseen first, first responders

Tucked in a high-tech facility all their own, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Communications 911 Center responds 24-hours a day, seven days a week, day or night to crisis phone calls.
This week, emergency dispatchers are being recognized nationwide as part of National Public-Safety Telecommunications Week. For the team of 19 emergency dispatchers who work at the Carson City communications center, their work is essential to saving lives and property.
